Thought I would just do this for fun, cause I am going nuts waiting for the 2013 CA tour dates....

my idea, compile a setlist of what I would want to hear for R40 without using the songs from the current 2012-13 tour....except Middletown Dreams, one of my all time favorites...

also trying to pick songs not played too much from 2002-2013...

R40 Overture: Finding my Way/Anthem/Bastille Day/Something for Nothing/A Farewell to Kings/La Villa Strangiato.

freewill

red barchetta

countdown

afterimage

middletown dreams

turn the page

scars

cold fire

test for echo

vapor trail

malignant narcissism (short drum solo in middle)

2nd set

hemispheres

passage to bangkok

closer to the heart

trees

xanadu (drum solo)

natural science

encore: long medley

In the Mood/fly by night/by-tor/losing it/In the End/in the mood

bored, yes....

but tell me you wouldn't want to see this show....wouldn't be too bad, eh?

That setlist sure is different..I wouldn't mind since I'm a :rush: freak, but you'd definately hear complaints about the lack of more "favorites".

But can't please everyone so what the hell??

Well, there is one song that they WILL NEVER DROP NO MATTER WHAT. Plus, there are a few others that should never be dropped. Also, take into account that the band will want to play at least some of the new material. Taking that into account, here is my setlist.

Intro Video (The boys at the retirement home trying to remember the words to "Limelight")

Limelight

Distant Early Warning

Cut to the Chase

Earthshine ("Hello [city]" and other Lip Service)

Show Don't Tell

Clockwork Angels (cut second verse/chorus)

The Anarchist (cut second verse/chorus)

Headlong Flight

Freewill

Digital Man

Natural Science

The Spirit of Radio

[iNTERMISSION]

Second Set Video

Tom Sawyer

Prime Mover

Driven ("Welcome back!")

Roll the Bones

La Villa Strangiato

Drum Solo

Different Strings (Acoustic)

Instrumedley (Finding My Way, Fly By Night, Under the Shadow solo section)

2112 Overture/Grand Finale

Working Man ("Goodnight!")

Encore:

Xanadu (Half)

Closer to the Heart/In the Mood

Thanks! I just threw it together.

17/19 studio albums represented, and if you throw Far Cry and Emotion Detector in there, you have all of them.

If this tour happens, it's gonna be a straight up greatest hits and full career retrospective set. Right now, though, we have the excellent Clockwork Angels show to enjoy.

Keep in mind for my list I strictly went with songs not on the current tour, except for Middletown Dreams....

In a realistic world for R40, you know TSOR, TS and most likely some parts of 2112 will be there....most likely Limelight....and throw in a few CA songs...

on my list, i know they will never play (well never say never) but most likely never gonna play live again, FBN, In the End, Something for Nothing, AFTK....and we'll probably never hear live Vapor Trail and songs like Cold Fire, Turn the Page, but you can never figure these guys out....who would have thought we'd hear most of Power Windows on the Clockwork Angels tour....especially when it was Signals 30th anniversary and the freakin dog is on the program cover....

I'd hope for some sort of medleys...if they have to be like R30 with no vocals from Geddy, well, whatever....I wasn't too thrilled when I heard the R30 Overture and there were no vocals, but I'd rather them play old stuff with no singing than not at all...

Yeah, I tried to avoid repeats as best as possible on my list, which is the only reason I left out Subdivisions and Far Cry, even though, in a perfect world those songs would always be played. Also I don't really consider a song like Tom Sawyer to be a repeat, considering that they will never drop that song. It's just as much a part of the Rush concert experience as having drums on stage is. So if there was going to only be one repeat from the CA tour, it would have to be Tom Sawyer.

My Revised Setlist

Limelight {Played only on select CA Dates

Distant Early Warning {Last played on Snakes and Arrows Tour

I went with a "one CA tour song PLUS TS and TSoR" approach, because they will ALWAYS at least play those two. So, here goes...

Set 1

R40 Overture (with bits from What You're Doing/Fly by Night/Lakeside Park/Something For Nothing/A Farewell to Kings/La Villa Strangiato)

Limelight

New World Man

Driven

Between Sun and Moon

Roll the Bones

The Main Monkey Business

Turn the Page

The Trees

Natural Science

(Intermission)

Set 2

Tom Sawyer

Afterimage

BU2B

Distant Early Warning

Show Don't Tell

Mystic Rhythms

drum solo

Hope

Resist

The Garden (my non-TS/TSoR holdover from CA Tour)

Jacob's Ladder

encore:

One Little Victory

Malignant Narcissism

The Spirit of Radio

All studio albums represented (counting the bits in the "Overture"), just the two staples and one CA tour hold-over, and only 8 songs represented from R30. Also several instrumentals to keep Ged fresh, and a shorter second set to accommodate their advancing age.

Since the theme is to make a setlist that I want to hear (with only 1 repeat of CA tour), here goes:

Finding My Way

Garden Road

The Anarchist

Here Again

By Tor And The Snow Dog

Lakeside Park

Cinderella Man

Jacob's Ladder

Something For Nothing

Broon's Bane

Trees

Xanadu

The Necromancer

The Fountain Of Lamneth

A Farewell To Kings

Cygnus X1

Hemispheres

La Villa Strangiato

Natural Science

I'd see any rush show

agreed.....but we all have our favorite tracks....

i've been to 139 shows, never heard fly by night live, probably never willl, but it would be nice....same goes for something for nothing, in the end and a bunch of other songs.....

just happy they still are a touring band....imagine if they had broken up in 84......wow, that's a lot of music and tours we never would have had....

I've heard Fly By Night live!

Kinda....

June 28th 1992 - World Music Theater, Tinley Park, Il

Soundcheck - Alex comes out first, fiddles with his guitar and then does the opening riff of FBN.

It was only 15 seconds or so.. but hey, I was there! :D

Rather than post a "dream set list" How about if you could have ONE tune included from each album, which one would it be...now obviously, a lot of us (me included) would LOVE to hear the entire Hemispheres tune, (preceded by Cygnus X-1, of course) and the entire 2112 suite...but be realistic...And it CAN be stuff you've seen or heard them do live before...just what tunes you'd love to hear, especially if their 40th anniversary is it!

Here Again

ByTor and the Snow Dog

Bastille Day

Something for Nothing

Farewell to Kings

La Villa Strangiato

Jacob's Ladder

The Camera Eye

Countdown

Between the Wheels

Territories

Turn the Page

Scars

Dreamline

Double Agent

Driven

Secret Touch

Armour and Sword

The Anarchist

I mean THAT list might encompass the whole set list, but geez, how many freaking albums havee they put out!

Okay there are three songs that HAVE to be played without a revolt from the fans: The Spirit of Radio, Tom Sawyer (as much as I dislike it), and YYZ (my personal favorite). I'm surprised the Clockwork Angels Tour is grossing as much as it is without Limelight on most shows.

SET ONE

R40 OVERTURE (Dreamline, Animate, Test for Echo, One Little Victory, Far Cry)—Dreamline/Far Cry don't count because they're in a medley!

Finding My Way

Fly By Night (transposed down to C major/G7)

Bastille Day

A Passage to Bangkok

Closer to the Heart

The Trees

Freewill

The Spirit of Radio—classic!

Tom Sawyer—classic!

SET TWO

Limelight—only played in 4 or 5 shows, doesn't count!

Digital Man

Distant Early Warning

Mystic Rhythms

Mission

Show Don't Tell

Roll the Bomes

Cold Fire

Driven

Earthshine

Workin' Them Angels

Caravan—my one repeat!

La Villa Strangiato

ENCORE

YYZ—classic!

Losing It

Working Man—only played 3 or 4 times, doesn't count!
