The Cat 3
I posted this in the "Albums you've listened to today" thread, but felt it deserves a thread of it's own... KISS - Destroyer (Resurrected) This is the remixed version of the 1976 classic, "Destroyer" which was released this week. ..."Destroyer" has long been one of my most favourite records, been in my top ten ever since I first purchased it wa-a-a-a-a-a-y back in 1976 when I was 13 years old. "Destroyer" is, in my opinion, KISS' best album start to finish...there is not a dud or filler on it. I was a bit skeptical about this remix, but rather curious knowing that Bob Ezrin was behind this project. That being said, the remix is #@!%$* amazing!!!! The sound is so good, the guitars are front and center and there are so many subtle and not so subtle nuances to it. Peter Criss' drumming on this album is unbelievable. He takes alot of heat, but his talent cannot be denied on this album and this remix proves it. The spirit of the original release remains intact, but it is a fresher sounding, guitar-driven record now. They have released it with the original cover, which was banned because it was thought to be too violent at the time. I highly recommend this one to any die hard KISS fan or to anyone who just wants to hear a fantastic rock and roll record. ~Cheers, RGLT http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/ultimateclassicrock.com/files/2012/01/Destroyer.jpg http://pullzone.musiclegends.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/Kiss-Destroyer-Resurrected-300x300.jpg

Presto-digitation
Wal-Mart is selling it for $9. And agreed, WELL worth it...!!! The CD is made to look like an old vinyl, with the groove marks and the old blue Casablanca label too: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cm2VkgqN28w/UDFkB81rpgI/AAAAAAAAJCQ/xE0jb5jK_IM/s1600/KISS+-+DESTROYER+RESURRECTED.jpg

Wow, so are you saying the new version eliminates Flaming Youth, Sweet Pain, and especially the horrendously embarrassing piece of garbage that is Great Expectations? Absolutely, "Flaming Youth" and "Sweet Pain" have benefited the most from the remixing of the guitars sound being brought forward. Again, the drumming is amazing. As for, "Great Expectations", the beginning piano part is more pronounced and it isn't "hidden" at all. Also, the choir section is much more intense. Listening to it today (for the 3rd time), it is almost as if the piano/choir section was intentionally toned down on the original release. Here, with them much more prominent, it really makes the song. Not a lot you can do with it lyrically, but hey, that's KISS for you...an ode to their female fans back in the day. You should give it a listen...after all, I was right about CA, right?

I understand that even in their best moments, Kiss were hardly lyrical geniuses, but some of the lyrics can get pretty bad. Anyway, I'm still a fan - they made a lot of kick-ass songs back in the day.

"Destroyer" is, in my opinion, KISS' best album start to finish...there is not a dud or filler on it. I was about 9 when this album came out. I first listened to it on 8-Track. It's my favorite KISS album, and I agree that it's one of their best. I love every bit of it and this one sounds excellent. The same songs, the same music, just fresher or clearer, a bit more defined and sparkly sounding. I've now owned this album in five different formats. 8-Track; record, cassette, two different cd's and now digital. I will get the hard copy of this one as soon as I can get out and find it. Glad to be able to pad Gene and Paul's pockets yet again.

I'd do this more often if the difference wasn't spending $9 or $18. That's a hard pill to swallow with local mom and pop joints, especially if you still buy a lot of CDs. Sometimes the pocketbook wins the battle, unfortunately. If money meant nothing to me, I'd frequent them exclusively.

Yeah, some people like it. What a bizarre revelation. Reminds me of a Stones song. Not one in particular, but a Stones approach. I think the choir actually makes the song. It's better for it than I think it would be without it. Love Destroyer. Top 3 Kiss studio album to me.

I don't expect them to be great, but I don't expect them to make me throw up in my mouth a little (or a lot) either. I mean seriously, those lyrics make Do You Love Me's lyrics look like a poetic masterpiece by comparison. At least Do You Love Me is fun and campy. I mean seriously: QUOTE You watch me beatin' my drum And you know what my hands can do And you wish you were the one I was doing it to First of all, it reads as if someone wishes they were getting beaten, but even if you don't take it in the clumsy literal way it's obviously not intended, it's still 25 shades of awful. These lyrics are arguably worse than My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas. We're talking legendary badness here. And then it's sung with a choir like these vomitous lyrics are supposed to be deep and significant and needed the extra drama and production. I'm embarrassed for Kiss when I listen to the song. Hell, I'm embarrassed for myself even. Don't get me wrong, Destroyer has got some great songs on it, but Great Expectations would have to come up a level or two even to scrape the bottom of the barrel. They're on the ground underneath the barrel. Edited August 26, 2012 by rushgoober
softfilter
90% of Kiss songs are campy & silly and when they attempted to show they had depth it made matters worse one of many examples: "I think I'm going blind" - I'm 93 you're sixteen.. talk about wanting to So besides the few curve balls or odd attempts to branch out, Party anthem rock is there specialty, ya know sex, drugs, rock and roll Spinal Tap forte. This is there genre music to pump fist and have fun with Never expect Kiss to put out thought provoking meaningful tunes ( Music from the Elder to late in the attempt for them to make a concept piece.) Same can be said for AC/DC lyrics "Let me cut your cake with my knife" yikes that's terrible.... I like Great Expectations with the choir and strings they were experimenting and yeah the lyrics can make you cringe, still I really enjoy the music aspect of that song.
