JohnnyBlaze Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 I find this interesting, but just that and no more. If you enjoy ranking albums simply by their songs, then have a great go at it, but for me I feel there's something else involved more than an album being the sum of its parts. I think actually I might try this process at some point, but I would consider my personal, unmathematical, ranking more accurate than a the sum of parts rating, for me anyway.Yup, I can see that. But as I said in that first post 3 years ago, this was simply a reaction/another method of rating albums compared to the onslaught of ways TRFers had at that time.
Crimsonmistymemory Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I don't understand a thing about numerical rating, except 10/10 - to me, all the albums are perfect. No bad songs. That is all. I agree to much math for me so, I will just go with 5's across the board.Thank you
canadianice Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I truly enjoy the entire discography, therefore i don,t see the point in ranking things, however carry on

JohnnyBlaze Posted July 16, 2020 Author Posted July 16, 2020 oh wow this is a good method... :hail:  So let’s see your scores. I might do mine again to see how my scores have changed
_hi_water._ Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Imma do this by percentages. Then I will divide by the maximum points possible (example: 2112 got a 29.75, and I divided by 30). I will also use 4.75, 4.5, and 4.25. So here it is:1st Place - Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures (my 3 fave Rush albums ) They got 100%.2nd Place - Signals (woah this is better than 2112 and AFTK? :o ) It got 99.375%.3rd Place - 2112, A Farewell To Kings ( :D ) They got 99.1%.4th Place - Grace Under Pressure (maybe this is better than I thought...) It got 98.125%.5th Place - Caress Of Steel ( ) It got 98%.6th Place - Rush, Fly By Night, Power Windows (right around here :guitar: ) They got 97.5%.7th Place - Clockwork Angels (around here too) It got 97.28%.8th Place - Counterparts (a little lower for me tbh) It got 96.81%.9th Place - Vapor Trails (around here as well ) It got 96.53%.10th Place - Snakes & Arrows (I'm fine with this) It got 95%.11th Place - Test For Echo (sure) It got 94.55%.12th Place - Hold Your Fire (okay) It got 94.5%.13th Place - Roll The Bones (correct) It got 93.5%.14th Place - Presto (correct) It got 92.28%.
Blue J Posted June 22 Posted June 22 On 7/15/2012 at 12:32 AM, JohnnyBlaze said: There have been several threads on ranking and rating Rush albums. And honestly, I enjoy most of them. But overall, they are either TOO complicated or TOO simplistic. Here, I think is something in the middle. Here, you can find the definitive answer of which is YOUR best. Do this by rating EACH song. THEN, find the album's average after that. Follow these steps: 1) Do NOT think about which album you think is best. 2) Use this point scale to rank each song: 5: the song is great-->perfect 4: the song is good-->very good 3: the song is so-so-->okay 2: the song is not good BUT it's not 100% awful 1: the song shouldn't have been made 3) Add all the song points for the album then get the album's average. example: I got 31 points for the 8 songs on the debut album. So, the album's average was a 3.875. 4) In the event of a tie (it only happened once with me), THEN you make the gut choice of which is the better album. Believe me, it doesn't take as long as you might think. And, I think you might be surprised at where the albums fall. But I cannot stress enough: rate the songs INDIVIDUALLY; do not think of the album and how much you love it. I'd be interested to know if your album rankings were the same or very different than if you were asked to straight-up rank the albums. Far too long a task to be arsed with. I'd rather just go with "Yeah I like it" or "Nah I'll listen to this other one instead"
