FAVORITE GUITAR SOLO OF ALL TIME:

Steely Dan, "Kid Charlemagne" (solo by Larry Carlton)

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Steely Dan, "Peg" (solo by Jay Graydon)

Freak Kitchen, "Nobody's Laughing" (solo by Mattias Eklundh)

Rush, "The Body Electric"

Rush, "Kid Gloves"

Those are all that come to mind right now. I don't listen to much music with guitar solos these days.

Over And Over/Lonely Is The Word - Black Sabbath

Oh yeah!! Over and Over is one of Tony's most underrated solos and it's wonderful. Also Crying for Love from Cross Purposes.

I don't know why - perhaps it's because I'm not a musician, but actually it's a rare thing that a guitar solo stands out to me so much that I take notice of it to the point where I think, wow, this is one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. That said, these are the ones that particularly stand out in my mind (that I can think of right now - there are doubtlessly dozens of others equally as worthy), starting with the one I mentioned earlier in the thread:

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

Sebastian Hardie - Openings

Terry Brooks & Strange - Ruler of the Universe

Van Halen - Eruption

Rush - Freewill

Rush - La Villa Strangiato

Pink Floyd - Interstellar Overdrive (especially the 16+ minute long version)

Jefferson Airplane - Embryonic Journey

Popol Vuh - Kyrie

Popol Vuh - Hosianna Mantra

Popol Vuh - Morgengruss II

The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Genesis - After the Ordeal

Genesis - Horizons

Jerry Garcia - Love Scene

Heldon - In the Wake of King Fripp

Heldon - Stand By

Deep Purple - Highway Star

Kiss - Shock Me (live version from Alive II)

Ash Ra Tempel - Amboss

Jimi Hendrix - Pali Gap

Riccardo Zappa - Tre e Quattro Quarti

Pink Floyd - Echoes

Cream - White Room

Beyond that, I think of favorite guitarists who have made consistently amazing solos:

Jimi Hendrix

David Gilmour

Alex Lifeson

Steve Howe

Steve Hackett

Steve Hillage

Jimmy Page

Jorma Kaukonen

Daniel Fichelscher

Robert Fripp

John McLaughlin

Frank Zappa

Ace Frehley

Jerry Garcia

Andrew Latimer

Syd Barrett

My choices may seem quite weird...
25 or 6 to 4 - many expanded live versions

Not "weird" at all, Terry Kath is one best guitar players ever

Life Divine - Santana/Mclaughlin

All Us Boys - Toto

Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush

Ten Years Gone - Led Zeppelin

Tunnel Of Love - Dire Straits

Para Lennon & Mccartney - Milton Nascimento

Telegraph Road and Tunnel of Love, by Dire Straits.

In fact, pretty much every solo Mark Knopfler has ever done.

Mark Knopfler is ridiculous. I'm so sad he doesn't have a larger output. Dire Straits suits him well but I would've loved to see him in a band like Yes or something, I think he would've fit very well.

The one towards the last third of Dream Theater's Breaking All Illusions is pretty amazing.

And let's not forget Limelight, Subdivisions, and Cut to the Chase!
