barchetta90480
Asia ... well ... everybody knows by know that even Steve Howe isn't always perfect ... But their first album was decent. Not much worse than any average Saga/ Survivor/ Foreigner/ Styx/ REO Speedwagon album. Well, much better than every Styx album, but what isn't ... Yeah, the GPS is a prog rock album, the solo album "Erotic Cakes" is rock instrumental stuff with some jazz/rock and a few other styles, kind of Steve Vai meets Eric Johnson meets Bumblefoot (who actually plays on the album), and the Aristocrats is a little more jazz/rock instrumental but with some rock stuff, a little bluesy stuff and some other stuff. It's maybe a little quirkier than Erotic Cakes.

GUP1771
They're definitely a band that I feel you need to cherry pick their catalog, but they do have good songs. So what if they lean more towards a pop rock side than their origins in prog? They write catchy, melodic songs that have art rock nuances at points. My best advice is give them a shot listening to 30 second samples and see if anything sparks your interest, especially their stuff beyond their debut album. It can never hurt giving a few minutes to hear a few songs.
