GeddyRulz
QUOTE (bigmoney2112 @ Aug 11 2011, 07:47 AM) I liked his 80s glasses. The thing with 1980s glasses is they were way too freakin' big! Look at the above picture of Geddy; the lenses cover his CHEEKS for Ged's sake! Why would a person need lenses over their cheeks? It's ridiculous, especially for somebody like Geddy who has small eyes. Today, glasses are much more sensible. The lenses are smaller and are horizontal... just like our eyes! circumstantial tree
I think the reason glasses had such large frames back then was because people found it annoying to see the frames from behind the glasses. Large frames allowed a better view uninterrupted by thick frames. Think of it as a "wide screen" version of glasses versus a small portable TV set. Also, prior to the large frames, most frames were those thick black variety. They were small but they covered your eyes much more so. And the glasses were actually glass, meaning that the frames had to be thick enough to support the glass, which was heavy. So it made sense to have a wider frame of view. I remember my mother switching from the small frames to the big frames and I remember that was her explanation - you didn't see the frames when looking outward. Peripheral vision and all that.
