Anyone pick up that Rush and Philosophy book yet?

Yep. Finished it last night. I enjoyed it; I'm an armchair philosopher. I learned a few things about the music -- which I didn't expect to read about (thought it would be all lyrics) -- and it struck me that these guys are geniuses.

I recommend it cool.gif

I guess that means I'll pick it up then. (As if there was any doubt anyway!)

How is it in relation to say the Chris McDonald or Carol Selby Price books?

I just picked both of them up on Amazon about a week ago. The Chris Mcdonald book is hard reading, I've put it back on the shelf maybe I'll pick it back up again later. I'm a few chapters into the Rush and Philosophy one and it's easier reading. So far I do find it interesting and it does make you think a bit.

I still have to pick up the Philosophy book.

Now that I think of it, I might not have finished the MacDonald book myself yet.

I think it's buried under other magazines that I need to get too. I think I'm about 80 percent done when I must have started piling magazines that I still have yet to read on it.

It's not with the other Rush books so that'd probably where it's at.

Sorry... forgot about this thread...

I liked the Shelby book but it was a bit lightweight compared to the Philosophy book. The latter is pretty deep and can be difficult reading in places. About on a par with the Chris McDonald book.

OMG!!! I must find this!!! Please share a lil' story behind that, Sig.

The story is these were given to Rush in the late 80's by a concert promoter (now deceased) by the name Bill Graham. I don't think these were ever sold. The guy I got it from says he believes it to be probably the only one in existence. He said Alex Lifeson gave it to him as a gift, and that Neil and Geddy drank all of theirs.

That's awesome!

Very plausible it could be "one-of-a-kind."

Just the kind of thing I'd hope to see in this thread.

So Hubby was doing some cleaning out of the storage area and ran across a stash of posters. Among them was a poster for the performance of the GuP tour that we saw in Vegas on Thursday, May 10, 1984 (we stopped after the show and took it off a telephone pole - yeah, they really did that!). It has the B&W press picture on a yellow and white background. It has some water damage but I think we can revive it.

Also found a GuP poster for Montreal, July 14 & 15, 1984. It is beautiful, with the album art and font. We're going to have it framed.

We also found some other cool (non-Rush) posters, many of which we'll probably ebay....

I'll post pics of the Rush posters when I get a chance.

let's review:

QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Feb 14 2011, 09:23 AM)
...it would be basically a site where people could post wanted/sale/trade items.  I have seen something like this before, but it seemed to be dedicated to vinyl.  This would have a broader scope.  I know you can hunt stuff on Ebay (and, I do and have found some great items!), but you have to admit that you gotta sort through a lot of crap to find the gems...

what's happening in this very thread is case in point for why a dedicated 'memorabilia' section/site would be welcome

members are offering some/all of their collection up for sale/trade P2P (person to person) - what ensues is a string of PM's, pics, links, the dreaded '...just ask, maybe I have what you're looking for..." etc

even a simple 'Craigslist-like' page would be a big upgrade

at bare bones minimum you'd have to require:

> photos

> prices/terms (i.e. 'will trade only' etc)

> contact info

> PayPal

^ you'd see a lot more memorabilia trading hands if members didn't have to 'hunt and peck' for it

make it easy to list your stuff and easy to search for it - that's the win/win - it encourages those with collections to post their stuff, and those who are looking for items the opportunity to come away with something special, reasonably

Those are awesome!

Especially the Asia and Crimson posters (never saw those before).

I didn't realize Jon Anderson was doing solo shows in the months before he rejoined Yes for 90125.

Thanks for the offer, but I've already taken care of that. (I did trade that Opeth 45 for one and a Rush Vapor Trails lithograph for another in the hope that I got a red one and a white one.)

I never bothered to open either so I guess it's still a mystery for me.
