JaymeZC
Hi there Rush gals! My fiance and I are trying to plan our wedding. We are both enormous Rush fans and want to be able to incorporate them into our wedding. The theme of the wedding is going to be Time Stand Still. I was really hoping to use the song as our first dance, however the upbeat 80's tempo really puts a damper on a slow dance. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions (if anyone has heard a slower rendition, a different Rush song that would make a better first dance). Any advice, comments, questions, or sharing of experiences is all greatly appreciated. Jayme
Mara
How awesome! Yeah, Time Stand Still is a bit too upbeat for a first dance - traditionally speaking. But who's to say you have to stick with tradition? There's always Ghost of A Chance.
JaymeZC
Ghost of a Chance is a fantastic idea! There are just so many songs to narrow down, since Rush doesn't really do the "typical" romantic songs. :-) Thank you so much for your input. Mara
And we of course will want pictures of the big event, when it happens!
nettiesaur
Entre Nous might be another one for the play list, and Different strings.
Ya_Big_Tree
I think for a first dance Ghost of a Chance or Different Strings is a good choice.
Queen of Megadon
ooh Entre Nous...nice My brother is a huge RUSH fan, he incorporated RUSH into his wedding day. They walked in to the reception hall to SPIRIT OF RADIO and used TIME STAND STILL in their wedding video for the "still" parts of the vid. It was rather awesome! nettiesaur
A first dance to "Hope" might please the parents. Very waltz-like.
iluvgeddy05
QUOTE (nettiesaur @ Jul 1 2010, 08:28 AM) A first dance to "Hope" might please the parents. Very waltz-like. I'm walking down the aisle to Hope. Well, we're getting married at an Inn so the aisle is going to be like 5 feet long. I better walk sloooooooooowwwwwwwwww. The rest of the wedding is going to be Rush-free though. Like Ged says, they aren't really a dancing band And my fiance is not a huge fan so it'd just be weird... Rush Cocky
I guess "Cold Fire" is out of the question.
JaymeZC
Haha, as much as I love Cold Fire, I don't know how much we'd be able to dance to it. Great suggestions everyone, though. The wedding is just in its initial planning period, so we have lots of time to sift through the annals.
Lerxster
New World Women is strong enough for a man, but made for a woman. Beautiful and wise. We just got hitched at The Bridal Chapel of Niagara Falls (NY) last weekend. Time Stand Still and Different Strings were on the wedding road trip cd for the way up. And a Niagara Rush! cd mix, but I digress.. Time Stand Still will be played at our reception later this month. It's probably the only Rush song that will be played. Well, I couldn't rule out a little Monkey Business Best of Luck to yous and Congrats
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
Love is born with lightning bolts Electro-magnetic force Burning skin and fireworks A storm on a raging course Like a force of nature, Love can fade with the stars at dawn Sometimes it takes all your strength Just to keep holding on At the speed of love A radiance that travels At the speed of love My heart goes out to you. Love is born with solar flares From two magnetic poles It moves towards a higher plane Where two halves make two wholes Like a force of nature, Love shines in many forms One night we are bathed in light One day carried away in the storms At the speed of love Nothing changes faster Than the speed of love My heart goes out to you We don't have to talk We don't even have to touch I can feel your presence In the silence that we share Got to keep moving At the speed of love Nothing changes faster Than the speed of love Got to keep on shining At the speed of love Nothing changes faster Than the speed of love My heart goes out to you

Jayme i'd suggest the pass... if not what about losing it- is their a "prettier" rush song? maybe not ideal lyrically... or- Cygnus X-1 at about the 8:00 mark. RUSHHEAD666
QUOTE (Mara @ Jun 30 2010, 03:00 PM) How awesome! Yeah, Time Stand Still is a bit too upbeat for a first dance - traditionally speaking. But who's to say you have to stick with tradition? There's always Ghost of A Chance. You beat me to the punch! Wendy and I had "Ghost Of A Chance" played at our wedding. We had two songs to dance to. "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel was the other tune. Believe it our not Wendy picked that one. Anyway we also did something else that was very cool and very emotional at the time for me. I actually had the DJ play "The Sphere" while my wife was being walked down the aisle by her father to greet me at the altar. It was priceless and a lot of our family came up to us after the ceremony and wanted to know who did that song. When I told them it was Rush they didn't believe me. Great times! We are still happily married too, 14 years this October. Have a great wedding no matter what Rush songs you so choose!! "FREEWILL!"

Actually, from a psych-point-of-view, respecting FREEWILL creates a good basis for the longevity of a relationship. Now about a song suggestion . . . I'm with the women who suggested DIFFERENT STRINGS!!! This has been our alone-time-at-the-beach song for over twenty years!!! It works!!!!! Many blessings as you plan your wedding - - be good to each other!!!!! Hare
