thetrees
ive heard a couple different pronunciations for "Peart", but i still am not 100% sure what is the correct one. At the powerwindows website, "pert" is said to be an incorrect pronunciation. So could someone just clear this up for me.....and how did the members get their nicknames: Lerxst and Pratt. I know how Geddy got his, but these two im not too sure about.

kbomb106
If the correct pronunication is "Peert," then Neil must be pissed at Geddy. I have RTB bootlegs in which Geddy pronounces it "Peart (rhyming with hair)." After 17 years together, you'd think Geddy would know how to pronounce his buddy's name. Ghost of a Rider
I heard Geddy refer to him as "Neil Peert" in a concert once. Like most people I called him Neil "Pert" until that night.

Of course...sorry, Billy. I was referring to me and NPG as non-instrument-playing authorities...since you actually play the drums, you could also be considered an authority, I suppose...
Cato76
I've always heard Peart pronounced like "ear." "Peart." That's what I heard anyway.
kbomb106
QUOTE (Ghost of a Rider @ Apr 5 2005, 06:14 PM) I heard Geddy refer to him as "Neil Peert" in a concert once. What a hypocritical bastard Geddy is! He can't have it both ways! Â Maybe Geddy's not sure if he's said both. Â Incidentally (and I'm not claiming that this is evidence for pronouncing it "pert"), on A Work in Progress, Neil makes some offhand joke like "it's like me plus." I'm assuming that had to be an offhand remark to people making shampoo jokes on more than one occasion in his life.
Ghost of a Rider
I just read a little of the BMW article and the author made a point of telling us how to pronounce it. He said it was pronounced "Peert".

Broncos730
any idea how the boys got the nicknames Dirk, Pratt, and Lerxst?
LerxstLady
The explaination for their nicknames that I've heard most often is that Lerxst and Dirk were the names Alex and Geddy used when they used to play D&D, but I don't know if that's right - and I'm not sure about Pratt. DoubleAgent420
This dude I know was always trying to tell me it's pronounced "pert" because he heard a live recording and Geddy said it that way. So I've had no way to battle that with proof, but I've always known it was pronounced "peert".
