    Rush vs Kansas

I am a huge fan of both; it is impossible to choose.
  2. QUOTE (CMWriter @ Mar 6 2011, 09:12 PM) QUOTE (ReRushed @ Mar 6 2011, 08:58 PM) These lyrics make me cringe every time: What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it gives forth a sound It's got wires that vibrate, and give music What can this thing be that I found? I understand the significance and love the idea behind it, but.. Yeah. The first time I heard "Discovery" I was laughing my butt off. I don't think it's terrible, it's just.. a little oddly worded, perhaps? If I ever listen to 2112 and my dad's in the room during Presentation, he starts making little mocking, whiny-sounding comments like, "Don't yelll at meee!!" The back-and-forth between the Priests and the Protagonist is interesting, but kind of amusing. I once saw someone comment that they found many of the lyrics to "Red Barchetta" rather "Middle-school" is what they used to describe them. What do you guys think? Yea or nay for "Red Barchetta"? Red Barchetta is one my favorite Rush songs and I believe the lyrics are perfect. This is part of the brilliance of Neal. He wrote this song from the perspective of a young boy driving through the countryside and racing "air cars." I think the lyrics fit perfectly.
  3. QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Mar 6 2011, 08:15 PM) None of those are even close to his worst. Dog Years is immediately what I think of when it comes to that. The line from TSOR fits the song perfectly. The words written on the studio walls I always thought referred to a wall that rocks stars signed while visiting a radio station studio. Or possibly autographed pictures of them hanging up on a wall in the studio. The line "echoes with the sounds of salesmen" makes perfect sense because it's referring to advertisements on the radio. And since it's a song about radio what's the big deal? Well stated.
  4. I gotta go with High Water. Love the song and would like to hear it live.
  5. QUOTE (Alex @ May 30 2010, 07:15 AM) I like it when the screens are showing close ups of the boys. Ditto!
  6. I love The Weapon, but I have got to have a good recorded live version of The Body Electric. What a song. Hopefully, Rush will include it in a live cd of this tour.
  7. QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Apr 7 2010, 01:46 PM) a few songs I wouldn't mind hearing: Turn the Page New World Man Middletown Dreams Presto Body Electric I would love a good live recording of The Body Electric.

    Kings x

I used to watch King's X way back when they were just playing bars in the Springfield, MO area. I got to speak with them a few times and they were always my favorite local band.
  9. Gotta go with VT. The guy just gets better all the time.
  10. This is a tough one because MP is my favorite Rush cd. I have to go with Red Barchetta with The Camera Eye and Witch Hunt right behind it.

    Scars

I saw them play it in Sacramento on the Presto Tour when they had the rabbits.
  12. QUOTE (madra sneachta @ Aug 18 2005, 08:15 AM) My guess is they did have groupies, but they were all astro-physics and philosophy students who wanted to discuss the meaning of life with Neil, and discuss their theory that By-Tor and Necromancer were both allegorical representations of the conflicts in Vietnam and Cambodia. And as for 2112............. Don't know if they had groupies or not. But look at the photo madra sneachta has on his posts. Those guys just look like all american (canadian) boys to me.
  13. QUOTE (Mustard Death @ Apr 22 2005, 10:14 AM) I have a Rush shirt that has the Starman logo and says "Tour 1976" at the bottom, and Rush at the top. And every time I go somewhere wearing that shirt I have at least a few people come up to me and ask me why I am wearing a pentagram. I usually respond by drawing them a correct pentagram and telling them that what I am wearing is just the harmless logo of my favourite band. Sometimes they dont believe me. My mother (Who is a Christian Southern Baptist) also recently questioned me about the "Sign of Satan" on the shirt. Once again I told her a pentagram has crossing lines, and drew her one. She just said "I'll look into that later"... It gets really tiring when nobody I know has heard of the band, so instead of saying something about them they just question me about being satanic or something. Sometimes I say "Yes, I do worship Satan daily. While listening to three Canadian men play incredible Prog music." Nobody even knows what Prog is. Does this happen to anyone else? Great post. Thanks for bringing it up. I've heard the same kind of complaints but, as everyone can see the "starman" is different from the sign of satan.

    Middletown Dreams

QUOTE (Sark @ Mar 4 2005, 01:26 PM) For me , it's my favorite from Power Windows. I just hope if or when they tour next, I can hear it LIVE! That would absolutley rock! ( live Mission would be nice too!) I like this song alot too. It's one that did not jump out at me at first, but the more it played the more I liked it.
