  1. QUOTE (subdivision40 @ Jun 6 2006, 04:28 PM) Time for a new one! http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i114/rushimages/vaportrails-23.jpg I love his smile! That smile just makes me melt all over.... ::happy sigh::
  2. The 2112 cover was the one that first got me, but, damn, I'll take him anyway I can get him!
  3. I do have to give him his props. The last few days, I've been having some EXCRUCIATING pain in my leg (I've only been able to sleep for about 7 hours in the last 2 days and that has to be sitting up since I can't put my leg on any kind of a surface), and he has been waiting on me hand and foot, doing EVERYTHING he can to try and help me be more comfortable. He may be a royal airhead, but his heart is certainly in the right place.
  4. Tonight's "Really! He HAS a brain! I swear!" update: He was going to make a hot fudge sundae by heating up the hot fudge in the microwave AFTER putting it on the ice cream....
  5. My husband... * Thought you could make a 2-quart package of Kool-Aid using 1 quart of water and leaving the sugar out. * Was admiring a friend's LA Gear shoes and thought they were cool because they were imported. (Another friend looked at him and said, very dryly "Yeah, we're thinking of making California a state any day now...") * Got upset when I asked him to reseed the lawn because he didn't want to have to dig that many holes * Spent about 3 hours one night trying to figure out what was wrong with his computer, then excitedly announced he'd narrowed it down to being either a software or a hardware problem.
  6. Just thought I'd add a bit of something to brighten our day! http://shadowedsouls.com/images/r30-121.jpg http://shadowedsouls.com/images/vaportrails-86.jpg http://shadowedsouls.com/images/vaportrails-20.jpg http://shadowedsouls.com/images/thewordsandthepicturesv2-29.jpg http://shadowedsouls.com/images/cap238.JPG.jpg
  7. QUOTE (ES355 dot @ Jun 7 2005, 11:39 AM) This one was my inspiration for a matching perm http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b213/easy9742/Rush/Alex_3.jpg What's scary is that's how most perms end up looking on me when I'm not even TRYING to copy his hair... and for some reason, the last few years, I don't even need to get a perm anymore to make it look like that - up near the crown its all straight, but the rest has a lot of loose curl to it (and it's not just left over perm since it's been about 10 years since I HAD a perm, and have had many cuts since then... ) Oh my... might it be that my hair knows about my obsession and is just trying to be helpful?
  8. Ok, my 3rd favourite guy in the world (behind hubby and Alex ) Jonathan Rhys-Meyers http://www.shadowedsouls.com/images/homme7.jpg http://www.shadowedsouls.com/images/homme8.jpg http://www.shadowedsouls.com/images/homme9.jpg http://www.shadowedsouls.com/images/horse.jpg
  9. static on your frequency electrical storm in your veins raging at unreachable glory straining at invisible chains and now you're trembling on a rocky ledge staring down into a heartless sea can't face life on a razor's edge nothing's what you thought it would be All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers turn to look at the cars turn around and turn around and turn around Turn around and walk the razor's edge Don't turn your back And slam the door on me it's not as if this barricade blocks the only road it's not as if you're all alone in wanting to explode someone set a bad example made surrender seem all right the act of a noble warrior who lost the will to fight and now you're trembling on a rocky ledge staring down into a heartless sea done with life on a razor's edge nothing's what you thought it would be no hero in your tragedy no daring in your escape no salutes for your surrender nothing noble in your fate Christ, what have you done? (I leave out the first verse because I've been out of school for too long, but the rest applies). I first really listened to this song while I was in the hospital after a suicide attempt. I think it hit me harder than all the therapy they gave me while I was there - and while it's no "magic pill" by any stretch of the imagination, when I'm getting down that low, I can listen to it and it helps me remember that there ARE other options, if I'm willing to turn around and work my way back to them, sort of like a tap on the shoulder bringing you out of a daze. Once when I was feeling really low, I actually wrote a poem in "response" to the song. Thankfully I don't feel that way very often: Some days the pass is far too wide, the razor's edge too keen To turn around and face the fear of future fates unseen No more running, no more flight, the battle will begin Against a monster deep inside, the enemy within A weapon made of fear and rage to batter at the soul The fear of hope, a rage at fate begin to take control Then darker, darker spiral down, the way out is so far Even for the dreamer who has learned to steer by stars Other favourite Rush quotes: "Ignorance and prejudice and fear go hand in hand" - Witch Hunt "There is no love without pain" - Secret Touch "See how it sings like a sad heart, then joyously screams out its pain... sounds that build high like a mountain or notes that fall, gently, like rain" - 2112 "Discovery"
  10. QUOTE (still have made a choice @ Jun 24 2005, 01:27 PM) Do u think "and the meek shall inherit the earth" is directly fromt he bible, or do u think neil just made it up? I don't think most translations of the Bible use the "...and" before "the meek shall inherit the earth" - it's usually "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth". However, Neil was FAR from the first to use the "and the meek shall inherit the earth" phrasing. We were discussing this on another board and I did a bit of searching and found it in books, speeches and other such sources going back as far as the early 1900's before I finally gave up looking
  11. I was trying to learn to like Rush because the guy I was all hung up on at 15 spoke only in Rush lyrics and Tolkein quotes... couldn't get past Geddy's voice, so he played YYZ for me - and that just changed everything - the guitar work just totally blew me away. THEN he played La Villa. I haven't looked back since. I was so impressed I started learning to play guitar, and the first time I saw a picture of the man behind that music, it was complete love at first sight! Even changed my taste in men - before that point, most guys I found attractive were very clean-cut, neat, "manly"-looking men - and anything, even a hint of nail polish on a pinkie finger, was enough to turn me off (seriously - one guy I'd had a crush on for a while showed up in a pick with his pinkie painted and it just turned me off entirely) - - but the first time I saw Alex, which was on the cover of 2112, it was just a complete YOWZA! moment, and since then, most guys I like have had long hair, delicate features and - frighteningly - look good in makeup. But even though Alex doesn't look much like that anymore, he's one of those that will always own a piece of my heart!
  12. QUOTE (sullysue @ Jun 19 2005, 10:11 PM) WHY ARE YOU YELLING? And get a dictionary And for your information, I appreciate Alex for his musicanship. I just happen to think he is very attractive. Hell, his musicianship is part of what makes him so attractive! His music is so full of passion and fire, and that has to come from within him, and it's oh SO very sexy! Throw in those beautiful eyes and that amazing smile, and what's not to love, eh?
  13. (Looking up a couple posts at the beautiful BIG pic with Alex wonderous grin... oh, and those other two mooks, too) I swear, I think I love that guitar almost as much as I love that man Why can't I just buy them both and bring them home? I'd take GREAT care of them!! Hey, Soddy - if you're hanging out here, when are you gonna get the AlexClones in production! (BTW: Hi all! Haven't been around in a while, but thought I'd drop back in... had to start in the best thread of all, eh?)

Here's one from the new Classic Rock issue... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v349/sweetmiracle/Classic/Rush.jpg If anyone wants the article, pm me.... Somebody's selling it on eBay so I just snagged the copy of it they have as an example. They say that it's an authentic autograph and not a pre-printed one....

Please ignore the strange brunette in the shot - I'm not quite sure what he'd doing there http://www.shadowedsouls.com/images/gedlexcircusmag.jpg

Oooooh! Thank you! Very nice And yeah - he does have such a boyish look, doesn't he?
  19. As it stands what we know is that the author of the aritcle took quotes from three previous interviews, included them in his article in such a way as to make it appear that they were answers he elicited from Alex during the current interview. The way the article was originally posted, there was no indication that any of the material had not come from the actual interview that the author says he conducted, nor any credit given to the interviewers who actually did get those quotes from Alex. The author claims it is a "normal" practice in interviewing, though I, personally, have never heard of anyone else doing it (though I'm not an expert by any means), but even if it IS a normal practice for an author to ask a subject if he still stands by an earlier quote and then reuse that quote as part of a new article, I can almost *guarantee* you that is it NOT established practice to take a quote from someone else - even a close friend and co-worker of the subject - and claim that it is a new quote from the person being interviewed. This, however, is exactly what the author did when he took a quote from Geddy and attributed it to Alex. As a result of these kinds of deceptive practices (leading people to believe that old quotes are actually from a new interview and leading people to believe that the subject said something that was actually said by someone else) opens the ENTIRE article to questions of credibility and opens ALL of the quotes to questions of legitimacy. You simply cannot assume that an author that recycles quotes form other articles and puts other people's words in his subject's mouth doesn't take other liberties in reporting the article. So, what we have is an article that the author and the editor of the website that published it initially are saying IS a legitimate article and taken from a legitimate interviews, claiming that, except for the borrowed quotes, everything else is from Alex directly, but you also have an author that has very little credibilty just because of how he wrote the article. I cannot say whether or not Alex actually said anything in that interview or not. Andy (the author) and Bart (the editor) claim that he did, but the questionable nature of the article gives all of use just cause to be skeptical about any claims regaring the article in general - including the veracity of the quotes. So, it IS possible that Alex did say what the article says he did. And the phrasing of the quotes does sound a lot like how Alex usually speaks - based on the many interviews with him that I've read and/or heard. However, he has so far refused to discuss the NYE incident at all, and at least one interviewer was told that if the question was even raised, Alex would have to terminate the call (since he cannot talk about it for legal reason), so for him to suddenly open up to this one reporter does seem a bit suspicious. But it's not imposible. I honestly don't know if he said it or not. I tend to think it's unlikely, but I certainly don't *know*. In either event, though, the quotes could have a detrimental effect on his situation in Florida. If he DID make those comments, then that's his problem, but if the author made them up, that's a whole different matter. So far, though, all we have is the author and editor's word that this is an authentic interview. Anthem has not conmmented either way, and until or unless they do, I don't think it can be conclusively determined if it's a legit interview or not.
  20. QUOTE (RushRevisited @ Sep 15 2004, 06:48 PM) Lerxst Lady, it sounds to me IMHO that the interviewer here got caught with his pants down and is trying to save his skin. I also have serious question about the NYE comments as well. I can't see him saying how "brutal" it was, etc etc at a point in time like this. Just doesn't seem like something he would say with the case still looming.... Exactly. It's kind of weird because the phrasing sounds enough like how Alex talks that I can almost imagine him saying it, but he's always been too sharp and too diplomatic to just run off at the mouth like that, ESPECIALLY given what's at stake. Its the kind of thing I could hear him saying AFTER everything has been settled, but even before I had any reason to question the validity of the article, I could hardly believe that he'd say that NOW.
  21. Well, what Bart from the Dutch Progressive Rock Pages is saying is that there were three answers that were taken from previous interviews - one that Alex did in 2002 with DoubleAgent5150 from the Counterparts site (for that site), one that Alex did for CNN in 2002, and one that GEDDY did this year with Billboard Magazine, but that the rest of the material is taken from a new interview that Andy Read did with Alex in June of this year. Bart also says that the reason Andy reused the three quotes is that he only had 30 minutes to speak with Alex, so rather than having him expound on questions he'd answered previously, Andy basically read the quotes to Alex and asked him if those statements were still accurate, and then included them in his piece. It still bothers me, though, that one of the quotes was orignally said by Geddy, and in this interview, Andy was basically trying to put Geddy's words in Alex's mouth. If he had wanted to get Alex's opinion on that matter, I'd think he would actually ask Alex about it, or Alex would have given him his OWN statement. So that just seems kind of odd, but.... The ont I have the biggest problem with, though, is the answer about the NYE incident. It very well may be a genuine quote from Alex - according to Bart it is. But I know from a previous article that when journalists were given the chance to talk to Alex, they were told that if they brought up the NYE incident that he would terminate the call because he cannot speak about it. Any comments he makes could be used against him by the prosecution if it actually goes to trial. Plus, stuff like what he's quoted as saying in this article could just piss the prosecutors off enough that they might not be as willing to make a favourable plea-bargain with him. When I first read the article, the emotional impact of that section really got to me because I'm SUCH a fan of his, but the more I reflected on it, the more out of character it seemed that he would have said that in an interview - but the phrasing sounds enough like how he talks that I didn't think at all that it wasn't a real quote until questions about article as a whole were raised. Which is basically a very long way of saying that I don't know if the rest of the article is genuine or not. I have my doubts at this point, but the editor of the DPRP is standing behind the story.
