  1. Just got back from the theater and I was very impressed with this one. Some of the dialogue was a bit corny, but that was a minor setback compared to the excellence of the film as a whole. I agree with every positive aspect (the cave scene was phenomenal) that has been posted thus far, so I'll just take a minute to ask the analytical cynics... WHY all the hate? Yes, there were some bits that you'd find in your run of the mill romantic comedy, but you have to remember that the kids are 17 years old in this movie. That being said, their relationships and interactions were perfectly depicted. A movie doesn't always suffer from romantic elements. Get over yourselves and just enjoy the damn movie.
  2. Infomercials should be banned from television.
  3. I haven't been able to catch this one yet, but it was certainly at the top of my list for must-see summer blockbusters after thoroughly enjoying its predecessor. I make a habit of tuning out film critics, but it's hard to ignore an abundance of reviews with such negative bashing from every angle. From what I've heard, the consensus offers praise for the action scenes and special effects with distaste for the overall film, while these positive elements offer little as backing to a pitiful story line with a horrible script and terrible acting. Upon reading that "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a noisy, underplotted, and overlong special effects extravaganza that lacks a human touch" from Rotten Tomatoes, I did a double take to make certain that I hadn't accidentally clicked on a link for one of the Star Wars prequels... Any thoughts, comments, reviews? Feel free to chime in.
  4. QUOTE (tick @ Jun 25 2009, 03:55 PM) QUOTE (Rush Cocky @ Jun 25 2009, 03:45 PM) To illustrate that I am a better Rush fan than thou art.... I have TWO copies of Hemispheres. I have the picture disc album. I have the Canadian pressing on red vinyl.
  5. This is quite possibly the easiest poll question I've ever answered on this forum. Hell no.
  6. QUOTE (hunter @ Jun 12 2009, 11:31 PM) Sorry is it's already posted but my wife thought of this one. "I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope." I already posted it a few pages back.
  7. "The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don't wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules. Anyway... I've started to make a tape... in my head... for Laura. Full of stuff she likes. Full of stuff that make her happy. For the first time I can sort of see how that is done."

  9. I'm glad you brought this issue to light, Puppetking. Surely no band that comes out of Canada can have any musical significance. I mean, their frontman looks like a witch and sings like a woman while their guitar player just fails miserably while trying to imitate Jimmy Paige. And the drummer, some Neil guy? If he got his nose out of those Lord of the Rings books he might have a chance at writing some halfway intelligent lyrics. Oh, and he clearly hasn't gotten the memo that you need to love every single one of your fans if you want to be a rock star.
  10. QUOTE (naturalsciences101 @ Jun 7 2009, 12:31 AM) QUOTE (NeilPeartFan2112 @ Jun 6 2009, 11:21 PM) Pineapple Thief - 137 Porcupine Tree. Pineapple Thief, indeed. Yes, no, maybe? Could be. I've never listened to Porcupine Tree, so I can't agree or disagree with that claim. I have heard they're very similar, though.

  12. I saw this movie a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the plot unfolded nicely and there were several twists that I wasn't expecting. Excellent acting as well, but that's to be expected from Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor. Oh, and on a little side note, I thought Ayelet Zurer was extremely attractive in this movie. I was unfamiliar with her before this film, but she was definitely easy on the eyes. Anyway, I haven't read the book, so my viewpoint is probably a bit more positive than those who have. All in all it's not going to be a film that will break any box office records, but it's well worth seeing if you dig drama/mystery/thriller flicks.
  13. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ May 28 2009, 10:59 AM) Great Metallica record too. Ha, that's the first thing that came to mind when I read the title of this thread. For a second I thought it was posted in the wrong forum.
  14. The Twilight - Tempest in a Teapot They're a local Cleveland band, so the chances of anyone knowing of them is rather slim. I found out about them when they opened for Fiction Plane at The Agora last year. The show was excellent, and I ended up buying their album after the gig. Great album to listen to on a sunny summer day, really easy on the ears. You can preview a few songs and find out more about the album on their MySpace page. http://www.myspace.com/thetwilightcleveland Check it out. Hope you dig it.
  15. QUOTE (Mandalorian Hunter @ May 27 2009, 04:41 AM) Oceansize - Frames I recently got into this band a few weeks ago. I've listened to Effloresce, Everyone into Position, and Frames, all of which are excellent. "Unfamiliar" from Frames is one of the hottest songs I've heard in a long time. Really tight track. Hope to see more from these guys in the future.
  16. QUOTE (theredtamasrule @ May 28 2009, 05:39 PM) QUOTE (NeilPeartFan2112 @ May 27 2009, 08:37 PM) Bones kicks ass. Yes, Urban was great...stole every scene he was in. Damn it Spock! I'm a doctor not a physicist! One of the best lines in the movie, clearly referencing DeForest Kelley's classic catch phrase from the original series. I loved the scene when McCoy smuggles Kirk on board the Enterprise as a patient under his care, and Bones' is walking around with his medicine kit constantly giving Kirk shots for his symptoms. One of the funniest scenes in the movie and it also showed the great chemistry between Pine and Urban on screen. Great characters all around.
  17. The casting is what makes this movie so fantastic. They couldn't have picked better actors than Pine and Quinto for Kirk and Spock. Every character is portrayed perfectly. I've seen it twice this weekend and I'd gladly see it a third time. One of the best films I've seen in quite a while. I'm already looking forward to the sequel. If you're questioning a trip to the theater, don't hesitate. It's worth every penny.
  18. QUOTE (tick @ Apr 7 2009, 08:30 AM) QUOTE (kazzman @ Apr 7 2009, 03:11 AM) QUOTE (tick @ Apr 6 2009, 10:06 PM) QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Apr 6 2009, 08:16 PM) QUOTE (tick @ Apr 6 2009, 05:24 PM) QUOTE (NeilPeartFan2112 @ Apr 6 2009, 05:34 PM) I'm fairly certain it was what you consider their "good albums" (pre Load) that got them into the Rock Hall in the first place, so I don't really see where you're going with this argument. Their influence on metal is arguably unmatched to this day. Also, Master of Puppets is considered by many to be the greatest metal album of all time. No reason Metallica should not be in the Rock Hall. Oh, and if making crappy albums is what it takes to get into the hall, then Yes should have a one way ticket. They made some really, really shitty albums after Relayer. Kiss, Rush, Yes, Kansas, Jethro Tull, Styx, Journey, just to name a few are not in. Why ? Because they did not become cartoon characters, who attention whored there way in. "attention whored their way in"........ Dude, they are one of the most important Metal bands of ALL TIME. That is a fact....... Yeah so ? Who gives a shit, thats not why they are where they are, and you know it. Read my last post. It makes perfect sense. Examine what your saying for a minute and think hard... The "rock and roll hall of fame" just inducted Metallica.... Say it again. Now say it again. Meditate on it. Now read my last post again. Your trying to give credit to a joke museum for getting something right ? Meditate on that. Its bullshit if you think the reason they put them in is because there astute enough to recognize the brilliance of such an important act. You know its bullshit ! The same jackasses who have Ricky Nelson in, and Rush on the outs. Yup, thats credible ? Is it a little clearer now. Are you going to contribute something new to the argument, or are you just going to keep acting like a broken record, repeating the same thing over and over again? So you don't like that Metallica got inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and that Rush hasn't. We get that. So you think the HOF is a joke. We get that too. Here's something I want you to meditate on: WHO THE f**k CARES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! It's just music. It's subjective. My ying to your yang. I could sit here and give you an argument as to why I think Mario Lemieux was a better hockey player than Wayne Gretzky, but I won't because it's pointless to and it wouldn't accomplish anything. Why should you care who gets into a Hall of Fame that you keep calling a joke? Should it really matter that much as to who is inducted and who isn't? QUOTE The "rock and roll hall of fame" just inducted Metallica.... Say it again. Now say it again. Meditate on it. Now read my last post again. And if you really want to get technical, Heavy Metal is a genre that traces it's roots back to Rock N Roll. So technically, any metal band that gets inducted into a "Rock N Roll Hall of Fame" would be deserving of the title and the honor. That didn't seem to stop them from inducting Black Sabbath, now did it? Gretsky was better then Lemieux. No arguement there. Your an arrogant person Kaz, and if you don't like my opinions, tough shit. This coming from someone who refuses to take the other side of debate into question. Kazz hit the nail on the head with everything he's said thus far, and you've come back with nothing but the same old bullshit argument time and time again. Their pre Load material is what made them so well known in the public eye, it's what made them big enough for people to give a shit about them making Some Kind of Monster. You're too arrogant to realize that an artist's "shortcomings" in recent years does not by any means discredit their past work and influence on a genre. You claim that Yes should be in the rock hall, yet they completely conformed to pop culture with albums like Tormato and 90125. Should this discredit classics like Fragile and Close to the Edge? Of course not. I'm not one to bash on others simply based on their opinions, but when your defense has nothing but contradictory support backing your claims, you bring it upon yourself.

  20. The Police - Certifiable: Stew, Andy and Sting sound even better 25 years later. Copeland's drumming hasn't lost a bit of its pulse pounding intensity, Summers adds shredding solos that were never heard on any Police studio recording, and Sting's voice still sounds fresh. This set of classics captures one of their tightest performances on the reunion tour. Nirvana - Unplugged in New York: An album as haunting as it is beautiful, this acoustic set proves that the band was capable of delving deeper than their grunge roots. Every song works perfectly as an acoustic arrangement, and some even surpass the originals; "About a Girl" and The Meat Puppets "Oh, Me" serve as prime examples. Simply put, one of the greatest live albums of all time. Jeff Buckley - Mystery White Boy: I never thought Buckley's singing could sound better than it does on Grace, but this collection of live performances perfectly displays both the beauty and power behind one of rock's greatest voices. The Who - Live at Leeds: A barrage of violent, heavy, and raw rock and roll. Four men with polar personalities teetering on the edge of chaos on stage but holding it together to deliver what is considered to be the greatest live record of all time, and rightfully so. Bob Dylan - The Royal Albert Hall Concert: This show captures Dylan at the peak of his career with some of his most popular material from the mid sixties. Also, the electric set serves as a document of rock history. Neil Diamond - Hot August Night: A master performer, this setlist loaded with hits perfectly displays why he is considered to be one of the greatest showmen of all time. The Allman Brothers Band - At Fillmore East: Phenomenal musicianship and several twenty minute jams capture the band at the height of their sound.
  21. Check out 'Heavy Weather' and 'Black Market' by Weather Report. Enough said.
  22. I'd agree with the majority and say that it's definitely not overrated, but extremely overplayed.
