oldphilly
I always wondered why the ESL vid/dvd is so short.Half of the concert is missing and I can't understand why they decided to release it this way. Was the whole concert shot?If so why wasn't the rest of the concert put on the DVD?Does the original unedited footage still exist(in the vault)? A real bummer we don't get to see the Camera Eye. And why oh why would they cut the drum solo? Perplexing. This thing is just aching to be longer.Just saying. here's what's missing: 2112 Overture The Temples Of Syrinx Cygnus-X1: Book II: Hemispheres (Prelude) Beneath, Between And Behind The Camera Eye Drum Solo The Spirit Of Radio Closer To The Heart Vital Signs Natural Science Working Man (Contained a Reggae introduction.) Cygnus-X1: Book II: Hemispheres (Armageddon) 2112 (Grand Finale) Encore: La Villa Strangiato (With classical guitar introduction.)
The Big Money
I'd imagine that the whole concert was filmed, but don't know why only half of it is on the dvd.

Saint NIck
I have an original copy of Exit...Stage Left on VHS; and the quality is still very good...considering the tape is well over 20 years old. I also have it on the Replay DVD set; the picture may be a bit better, yet the audio is not a direct transfer from the original VHS. The 'Exit' video concert does contain Closer to the Heart and the 2112 Grand Finale. Why would they omit 2112, YYZ and 'Spirit' (among the others) from the video? A 2 hour show could fit onto a video tape...even on the SP speed mode. As for the rest of the footage, I've read somewhere that a company called Fogolab has access to the Rush vault of audio & video recordings. With that, you would think that sometime in the future some of the missing footage will be made available. For the time being, what I have on video will do just fine...Exit, Grace, A Show, Chronicles, Rio, R 30, Snakes and a bunch of boots.

sdhonda
One possibility is that they did not actually film the entire show, just portions of it (this may explain why they put those interveiw segments about). It's also possible that the performances during that show were not up to par, or the footage was not very good, or worse, damaged or un-synced. And don't forget guys, back then these things were primarly meant to be broadcast, and one hour shows are easier to market on TV than 2-3 hour shows (the Queen: Rock Montreal vid I recall seeing on TV was shorter than the DVD, and this was 2007). The tapes were a bit of an after thought.

Thanks for the link.I had totally forgotton about the CTH footage. What a killer version-chills up the spine. As for the possibility that the entire show wasn't filmed,I just can't see that happening. The songs on the VHS/DVD are out of sequence and it would make no sense whatsoever to film some songs and not others. The entire drum solo is cut from YYZ while the rest of the song remains intact. I'm sure there's a solid reason out there since the entire show would easily fit onto a DVD. Oh well, what can ya do?
