Gone but not Forgotten

Recommended Posts

I got this idea while at my Dad's house today. Looking through a huge box of photos from the 30's through the 80's and realizing what a wonderful lineage I have. I was amazed at the fashions of past times and the members of my family that served in various armed forces around the world. The many people in my family from half way around the globe that I've never met. I was overcome with emotion as lineage means a lot to me. I decide to make this thread so others could post proud photos of family members that are gone but not at all forgotten. If they left a mark on you or the world. Old photos are the best and tell us more about who we are and why and how we even got here if you look close enough.

I'll start with these smile.gif

My beloved Grandfather "Big Reg" or Reginald Goldsmith from Luton England in his gear from his days around the world in the Royal Navy. He is on the right. wub.gif

I love old photos. Makes you wonder, when you look at the people and their expressions what they were like. What they did in life and if you are anything like them. I think its beautiful smile.gif

First off... GREAT THREAD Lady. yes.gif I've often thought about this, but just recently found some really old pics of my folks.

So here's the earliest picture that I have of Bill ("Deac") and Marie. wub.gif

I believe they were married in 1941. So this is around then.

Soon after they were married, Dad went off to fight the Axis in Germany. Here he is with the truck he named after my mom. If you look on the hood real close, you can make out MARIE on it. I had this picture in my wallet for years, so it's in bad shape and in need of some good PS work. I only used paint to make it a bit better for posting.

And this is a pic of them with who I believe is Rodney Dangerfield. I know my Mom used to talk about meeting him and this guy looks very similar.

I'm guessing based on her dress (the top pic) that it was the 1930's.

I love these pics. My mother has a collection of old photos, but I don't think she'd let me bring them back here for fear of something happening to them.

Yeah - I think it is sometime in the 30's - I could check the date, if I pulled out the family tree scroll since my Geat Uncle was being hidden by the flowers and chair.

My Grandmother told me that they wouldn't take pictures showing women pregnant back then and always found ways to hide it.
