skrewflanders
During Subdivisions Alex sang the "Subdivisions" line during the chorus. It sounded just like the recording, i was wondering if it really was Alex or just a sample.
WCFIELDS
I'm gonna say sample.........
LerxstFerret
Sample. Alex's mic is always really low, or off, unless it's during the LVS rants.
Lady April
It was the voice of Toronto based dude Mark Dailey.
spitball
QUOTE (Lady April @ Sep 2 2007, 09:39 PM) It was the voice of Toronto based dude Mark Dailey. Interesting, I always assumed it was Neil speaking. He often does those parts, and it at least sort of sounds like him.
scottsmith
i thought it was neil, too. and the speaker in the necromancer?
tripdad
Why would he act like he was singing it then? He clearly approaches the mic and "lip sinks" it then. There is other stuff that is sampled and there is no attempt to mask it. For example, during Spirit of the Radio, Geddy is not even behind the keyboard when you can clearly hear keyboards playing. We all know they sequence in live shows (good discussion in another thread) so why make attempts to mask it? I personally think he is singing it. Why would you sequence something as easy as saying, "Subdivisions"? I'm no paid musician, but I could even handle that.

JDL2112
It isn't Neil? I'll be...I've thought that for the longest time... Thanks April!

WorkingAngel
^Yeah. Lady April is right about Mark Dailey for the studio album. As for live performances, I think it's Alex.

WorkingAngel
^ For Alex, cartoon voices come easy. And it does sound awesome (at least, when they turn up his mike enough )

That would be Neil Before I found out about Mark Dailey, I always thought that the Subdivisions video was bizarre when Alex would mime that part. It just didn't fit. Now I know why. Lerxst2112
Other than Mark Dailey doing Subdivisions. The deep voice parts i.e The Necromancer, Roll The Bones, and Double Agent are done by Geddy.
WickedYoungMan
QUOTE (tripdad @ Sep 3 2007, 10:35 AM) He clearly approaches the mic and "lip sinks" it then. That's pretty much it, just as I'm sure there's more stuff he lip syncs backings to. If not, like someone indicated he's usually very low in the mix. I'm with the thought that it's sampled to. WickedYoungMan
For what it's worth, 2112 website "Power Windows" offers that it's likely Mark Dailey as well. http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/SIGlyrics.htm
steelcaressed
I have a 84 bootleg where Alex sings it. Truthfully, it was embarrassing. (And forget about it already, I love Alex, especially when he's playing guitar.) It's definitely not him singing in the recent live versions. It's sampled from the original studio recording. Dont be stupid, , Geddy isnt playing on the Keyboard because he triggered the sound with his Moog Pedals.
skrewflanders
Ya i know it was the dj on the studio version, but live it sounded really similar to the studio version....
