Pags
A personal and heart-felt thank you, Ladi. Yesterday was 12 years since this horrible disease took my mother, and not without almost 5 years of total hell that brought us all to that final date. I can't thank you enough for doing this. I hope it's going great.
Tammeh
That is awesome you are participating. That event takes place here every year. Last year we went and visited our friend who was participating (lost her dad to brain cancer). It was a very emotional and beautiful thing to see. Kudos to you
Necromancer
Awesome Ladi. I hope that someday in our lifetime you won't NEED to go to an event like this. Somehow we have to beat this horrible disease.

Slacker
One person can make a difference, Amanda. I know lots of people dedicated to Relay for Life and each year because of their dedication this event grows. I pledged myself for the next one in April of 08.... This one is done in a Gym, so the elements have no effect on the outcome.... Rain, Rain go away!!!!

ladirushfan80
well folks! I'm back from the Relay! WOW. Once again, this event NEVER fails to move me to tears. It had even more meaning to me, because of the people HERE who have touched my life by this horrible disease. I was unable to obtain the total amount raised by this particular event. I seem to recall last year The Northville/Novi Relay For life raised over $115,000.00. This year's event was soley the Northville Relay. Novi has decided to do their own event, which will be held in a couple of weeks. There were 57 teams attending this years relay. Hopefully within the next day or two i will have the monetary results. One of the highlighted money raising events this year was the "Miss-ter Relay. see, during the actual day of the RFL, teams have events, contests and "things to do" or to buy at relay to continue to raise money for their team. The "Miss-ter Relay" consisted of some male particpants in a "pageant". They parade around the track for 3 laps, and hopes of obtaining donations for their team, and in turn for the ACS. here's a couple of pictures i took of that: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03557.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03558.jpg and here was the one awarded the crown and sash and dubbed "Misster Relay". He got over $200.00 given to him!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03568.jpg getting ready to ride the track on his "chariot"... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03569.jpg Necro, if they hold this event next year, i'm bringing your ass to michigan to be on our team... we would win this one.... HANDS DOWN !!!! that same "chariot" was used as a money making device for that team. you could take a ride on the "Rick Shaw" for a nominal fee around the track. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03590.jpg
ladirushfan80
Another Fund raiser: being put in jail. these teams members would "arrest" you, and it was up to you to get the money for their team necessary to "get out of Jail"....( i was never arrested btw...) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03589.jpg here's a couple of Ford Field. It's hard to get a good shot of the whole track, but the inside and outside of the track is lined with teams. i had to go up this big flight of stairs to get these. the stairs lead to a street. across the street to downtown Northville is the bank where the comittee members did all the counting. They do several "banks" thoroughout the day and tally the monies each team is earning. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03592.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03593.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03594.jpg at the top of the stairs. i was in front of the bank where this photo was taken: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03596.jpg
ladirushfan80
Ford Field is situated near a beautiful stream. Next door to it, is The Mill Race, which is a little piece of Northville History. Across the street following the stream is a nice pond. The old Ford Waterwheel Plant is located there. i took a couple pics of those areas When the clouds finally decided to part, for a while... here's the lake by the Old Ford Plant. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03602.jpg stream leading to the bridge that will take you to Mill Race http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03586.jpg the Mill Race Bridge http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03587.jpg Same bridge, i'm just ON it now !! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03609.jpg on the bridge, looking toward the opposite direction i was earlier, toward The Old Ford Plant: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03610.jpg
ladirushfan80
just a couple shots of the Mill Race, and then i'll show you the awesome Luminarias we made.... They have lots of events there at the Mill Race. you can tour the buildings there, and someone inside tells you the history. Kinda like Henry Ford's Greenfield Village if anyone has ever visted that in Dearborn Michigan... One thing they do a ton of this time of year is weddings... in this gazebo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03612.jpg usually in years past there is always a wedding there at the same time as Relay and we're not allowed to go to the Mill race. For some reason, there was no wedding there yesterday... Another cool historical "fixture" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03613.jpg "the Village Store: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03611.jpg close up of that: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v415/amandaladi/sports%20stuf/ACS%20Relay%20For%20Life%2007/DSC03616.jpg ok! on to the Luminarias!!!! ladirushfan80
In closing.... i just wanted to give out some thank yous.... thanks to: Necro and Ceej. " HI ! Me again!!!".....I had called them a couple of times for some assistance in getting the Luminarias completed and personalized... Sorry i woke ya'll from your naps eh? But it sure was nice of you to help me out, and hanging with me during the relay!! To Pags & Owlswing. I tried calling them a couple of times during the day so i could get some info on the Luminaria i did for Pags' mom. the first couple of times, i didn't leave a message, i figured i'd try back later and finally catch them... but my final call, i decided to leave a message and what do you know! they called back!!! ha ha ha. Pags was very helpful in providing what i felt i needed to honor his mom. I hope i didn't move you to too many tears you guys, and i hope you like the way in which we honored your mom.... And, to my Girls, Jessica, Ryan and Amber. I've been dragging them to this event for 7 years now, but really, now they almost drag me! They always look forward to Relay, and are a huge help in obtaining money for our team. They dive into it full force. I hope they continue on with this throughout their lives. AND... they were a HUGE help in getting these Luminarias decorated. It was getting close to the time when they needed to be finished, and on the track, and they kicked ass and got the job done! truly, i am blessed to have such great kids, and great friends.... thanks again so much ya'll for your support! hope you enjoy the pictures of the event as much i enjoyed not only taking them, but being there to take them... ~Ladi
