Losing 30+ lbs helps a lot.

That's my problem..Since I hit 45, I've got a tire that I can't won't lose.

I can't keep weight on.... I am just a couple years younger than you.

Also running over 1000 miles over the course of the year, as fast as you can run helps.

I ran today...3.5 with the dogs, then another 6.5 alone. Felt great. I need to fix my diet, but it's tough with the fam and work pulling me in other directions.

BTW, imagine if I was 300 less on that bib number? I would frame that thing...

19:00 should be a breeze for you, considering what you've been doing in a 10k. On the home front, I've been doing some fartlek training to build strength. I'be had a lot of success with it in the past, both in building speed & stamina, and avoiding boredom.

Should be, but you never know (heat, hills, not your day). On Friday, ran 18:40 on my own. Yesterday I had booze, ate two plates of spaghetti and still ran 19:50, but hey, we'll see.

Sprints, and hills are the workouts I have been lacking the past couple years. Need to get on that.

I find that type of training really builds my aerobic capacity and my ability to break through "walls".

I have had to cut back my running drastically. It bothers me but I was experiencing hip pain and I'm sure the me 20 years from now will appreciate my dialing back the running. I only run 3 miles now every day. I find my hips don't complain at all and it's nice being able to sit for a while and know that I can get up and walk right away without limping.

I have to run every day though. It's seriously therapeutic being outdoors and getting exercise.

Barney, your pace never ceases to amaze me!!!

Interesting book title...is it good? Years ago I read Haruki Murakami's autobiography, "What I talk about when I talk about running". Very cool.

By the way, my preparation for the Rio Marathon took a back seat last week due to a horrible conjuntivitis that just wouldn't heal!!! But I'm feeling better now and did 28km today, in 02h34min00s. Next week is 32km, and then I'll taper down until late July.

So far this book is pretty interesting. 1/4 in and it basically just praises the technique... no real instruction yet.

I read Murakami's book last fall. Pretty good. Some great quotes from him.

Check out Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. That is one book every runner should read.

So my 5k went well. Not the time I wanted 19:14. I really wanted to break the 19:00 mark, but partied too much last night.

Still good enough for first place. The I was with the second place guy for about 3k before I broke free.

Years ago,

I had had to run a relay race and the night before I was out with a few friends longer than I should have been. I ran the eight mile leg. How I finished and did is good as I did I have no idea. I think the guilt kicked in at some point. :D

Ran 24km today, in 02h06min42s. If I keep this pace on the day of the marathon, my first one in less than 04 hours will finally happen!!!

Right on!

Getting stronger! Nice work! At least someone is keeping with a program. I'm way off of where I should be.

I was going to run today but we are smoked in from a fire outside of Markleeville, CA.

The wind shifted and slowed, which is good for the fire fighters, but all that smoke is now settling above us. Can't see those cows anymore...
