prog.fusion Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 so since im new and what not, i thought i would get the general consensus of post-rock feelings here. mainly this band. one of my favorite bands and my fav. post-rock band. absolutely amazing atmosphere they create with their music. so.........anyone else?
tangy Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I started to listen to a live show of theirs over at archive.org. Maybe the song I was listening to started off slow but I bailed after a few minutes......
progrush2112 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 QUOTE (tangdog @ Feb 13 2007, 10:46 AM) I started to listen to a live show of theirs over at archive.org. Maybe the song I was listening to started off slow but I bailed after a few minutes...... that's where I started listening too. Try this show. It's the one I ended up downloading and it's pretty awesome.
prog.fusion Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 yea, the first few minutes usually have little going on. its not......typical music. its not just gonna start and give you what you expect to hear. you kind of have to stay with it. but the payoff, is well worth it.
Atomic.Feedback! Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Alas, for a decent connection, so I could hear what everyone raves about... I've heard they're good too, but I wouldn't know.
vaportrail Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 If you guys are looking for other good post-rock bands, check out Mono, Russian Circles, and Red Sparowes. I guess Sigur Ros falls into that a bit too. But definitely look into Mono, mind blowing!
prog.fusion Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 yes, all bands mentioned are well worth checking out. as well as Mogwai, Mum, Explosions in the Sky and especially Sigur Ros. SR are probably the easiest to get into post-rock with. so i would recommend them first maybe before GY!BE. just to get more associated with the genre.
deadwing2112 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I've listened to them before and I don't remeber anything from the songs. I just remeber post rock as being very climatic and depressing music. Explosions in the Sky is massivly deppressing music.

I guess I should of said a few weeks ago, even before I read this thread I was at archive checking it out. I will take another try.
neptune Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 GYBE is okay as far as background music goes.
Jomboni Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I should have looked at this forum a long time ago. Another one of my favorite bands. I have a playlist on my phone that's a mix of Godspeed, Mogwai, Tangerine Dream, Explosions IN the Sky, and other stuff along those lines, and it's good for everything from background music at work, to video games to Did anybody get to see them on their reunion tour last year? They were really good although I was a bit bummed they didn't play "Moya" at the Philly date. Has anybody listened to their other band, A Silver Mt. Zion? It's a similar style but heavier overall and it has vocals. The singer is terrible, but in a way similar to Bob Dylan where it fits the music.
Good, bad, andrush Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 One of my absolute favorite post-rock bands ever as well. Along with Sigur Ros. I think I may enjoy Sigur Ros a tiny bit more, but it depends what I'm in the mood for.
treeduck Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Do they call it post-rock because they can't think of an original name for it?
Hatchetaxe&saw Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 QUOTE (treeduck @ Aug 19 2012, 07:10 PM) Do they call it post-rock because they can't think of an original name for it? Well, they tried "flarglejangderpleg", but it didn't catch on.

Nate2112 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Working on a GYBE/Hammock/Sigur Ros style Post Rock project called 'Soulfountain."
Oracle Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 GY!BE is pretty much like a lot of post-rock bands. Crescendos really make their songs (Explosions in the Sky, Worlds End Girlfriend, etc. all do this at SOME point). I think "Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada" is a wonderful EP along with "Yanqui U.X.O.". Their best album? Still "A#F#(infinity)"; because, really, how can you beat Providence?

Zion albums, Horses in the Sky, and just couldn't get into it. The singer is the lead guy from Godspeed, Efrim Menuck. I think the style is purposefully off-key and disjointed. I like the music far more than the vocals and lyrics. GY!BE reunited not long ago for a couple of shows but I don't think they've recorded anything for quite a long time. Yanqui UXO and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven are my favorites.
Nate2112 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I was at the mall today and I was in a store known as Newbury Comics...They have Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven on Vinyl for $23.99 as well as Sigur Ros's Valtari for $29.99...which should I get????
Jomboni Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 These guys just unexpectedly put out a new album at their show in Boston the other night. It's really good!
invisible airwave Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Heard of them but never heard them. I always think of that break up scene in Pineapple Express when I see the band mentioned.
Oracle Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Just downloaded a vinyl rip of "Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!". Was NOT expecting such a sudden and hype-less release. The 10 year wait was worth it.
tjtull Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 QUOTE (Oracle @ Oct 3 2012, 03:34 PM) Just downloaded a vinyl rip of "Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!". Was NOT expecting such a sudden and hype-less release. The 10 year wait was worth it. Yeah, I just heard about the release a couple of weeks ago and immediately put in my order. I received the CD on Friday and it blew me away. It's true to the GY!BE standard! They take their form of ambient/drone to a different place than most.
H. P. L. Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Time to re-up this thread! I listened to the stream of the new album and blew me away. Gonna get it for Christmas for sure. They play in Switzerland in the next week. If I was a millionaire I could go and see them.
