I'm sorry to hear this. Her voice had a great range!  "Lay Down" is a really pretty song, my friends brother used to play it all the time. She was kinda like Stevie Nicks, before there was Stevie Nicks. RIP, Melanie.

Ah, Melanie.   Brand New Key was popular when I was in high school.

As a fresh young innocent of 13, way back in 1971, I bought 'Brand New Key' simply because I liked the voice of this 'hippie-chick' by the name of Melanie.

The single was a massive hit in the UK and could be heard everywhere.

 

RIP Melanie ..... forever my 'hippie-chick'.
