Granted I used a subjective term like "meaningfully", which means different things to different people. Trump's pro business attitude did help jobs and the labor market, but I can't go calling it a resounding success, and I'll never forgive his top earner tax cuts. Going into it further, see the link below (hats off to TOG for going with two .edu articles in a row). As we know, Covid skewed things greatly. Up to January 2020, aka the first 3.0 normal years of his term, real wages increased 3.1% (still the highest increase in real wages in 3 years over the last 40+ years). 3.1% is solid, but it's not the 7.1% that's touted in the wisconsin article. This article notes that much of the post-covid remainder of the increase in real wages was laying off lower wage workers, raising the average wage of people actually earning wages higher.... I think that's an important distinction to note. https://perc.tamu.edu/blog/2024/02/presidents-real-wages.html Their Table 2 is nice and tidy. On paper the economy has done well under Biden, at least the stock market that is (although I consider the stock market a near useless measure of how ordinary Americans are actually doing). Biden does deserve criticism for lack of growth of real wages, however he took office during an in-progress lead-up to high inflation, and that muddies things greatly. You can't give someone the reigns to a train that was cruising 200mph, is going to crash, and has currently slowed down to 150mph at the time of changeover with an unavoidable crash coming, and then blame them 100% for the ensuing crash. I realize that's a half-assed analogy. Biden deserves some praise and considerable criticism. He doesn't deserve 100% of the tractor crowd's hatred or unsubstantiated criticism, and he certainly doesn't deserve to be considered a hero of any sorts. But, we can tip our hat a little to things like the infrastructure bill and halfway getting insulin prices under control.

That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 That was a good 8 mile hike. Lake Desolation is a good one. WAY more crowded than five years ago though. I'll try to bag a 10-miler this year, it's been years.
That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 Really hopeful I can get the 4Runner out to a dedicated Moab trip this year. I'll be passing through in July. I might do one quick ez road as part of it, "Long Canyon Road", just out of convenience and sheer will. That's much farther than I feel about the topic, but I appreciate hearing your take due to your nonpresence in SOCN. I'd probably call him a 4 or 5 out of 10, but it's messy to assign it without going through the nuances. Biden as a person generally sucks, and I am ageist when it comes to presidents, but walking into a COVID presidency is not easy. I think many of the candidates would've done a mediocre job in the same situation, when they don't have the benefit of knowing then what we do now. It's why I don't criticize Trumps' 2020 COVID spending. It wasn't done with 2024 information.
That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 (edited) I should keep this to SOCN. The negative of LABT's [on-and-off] existence is worth the positive of a higher hit rate of full posts responded to Edited June 15, 2024 by That One Guy
That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 (edited) If you're gonna call yourself a car guy, at least walk the walk a teeny bit and own a personal vehicle, instead of saying "I would come to that drive if I had a car to bring" while being a homeowner and doing nothing about the car side Or at least keep your relatively late model motorcycle running c'mon do something Edited June 15, 2024 by That One Guy 1

That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 Every time LABT throws a non-sequitur Miata-related insult my way, I respond politely with playful banter, ask him why he won't tell me what he drives, and announce that in the absence of additional information it is presumed to be a 1996 Cavalier
That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 You can't gerrymander Utah out of one measly sitting congressional Democrat seat forever It's inevitable to return

That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 (edited) Aggravating. I didn't realize that the 2018 ballot initiative independent redistricting commission was stripped of its power 1.5 years later. Hate to see my vote thrown away by big R legislature having the power to overturn a ballot vote that passed with a simple majority. Slicing out blue Salt Lake County over our four congressional districts is absolute chickenshit that can't be justified https://apnews.com/article/utah-redistricting-3cb3fb05e7253f3ec3d26749138bea9e Edited June 15, 2024 by That One Guy 1

It’s hard to turn back from this endgame of voting against The Other Side, rather than actually voting for a candidate because you like them and their platform. My vote is third party in November, as I’ve been saying 1
That One Guy Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 And why the f**k can’t we get ranked choice voting in more places? Oh, right, the current ruling power of any given place 1
