goose Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 IMO, the best show of the year. I've watched it twice, and loved it both times! One thing that interests me is the missing action from the key games...the actual chess. I managed to stumble across a reconstruction of Harmon's final match against Borgov, and it's beautiful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIMaTKOZG-8 1
goose Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 How good was young Bobby Fischer? He beat a grandmaster in ten moves... 1
Nova Carmina Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 IMO, the best show of the year. I've watched it twice, and loved it both times! One thing that interests me is the missing action from the key games...the actual chess. I managed to stumble across a reconstruction of Harmon's final match against Borgov, and it's beautiful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIMaTKOZG-8 I wondered how they would reconstruct a fictional match, but it was good to know it was based on a real game, so that makes a lot of sense. I like this guy because he's very positive about the chess of the series, rather than trying to shit on it the way lots of elitists would do; it makes me appreciate the show even more for deserving this kind of analysis!

goose Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) Worth watching if you liked the Queen's Gambit. Inspiring, and it includes a lot of chess genius stuff you see in Queen's Gambit, like him playing ten people simultaneously...while blindfolded (Magnus, not the other ten, lol). IbanezJem Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Worth watching if you liked the Queen's Gambit. Inspiring, and it includes a lot of chess genius stuff you see in Queen's Gambit, like him playing ten people simultaneously...while blindfolded (Magnus, not the other ten, lol).Magnus had some wider fleeting fame in the UK last year, as his Fantasy Football (or soccer, if you prefer) team was leading the about three-million strong contest. I think he finished third or something, further adding to the theory that FF is a massively complex and chess-like business, and nothing to do with fortune or hunches or emotion.
goose Posted February 27, 2021 Author Posted February 27, 2021 About time to re-watch this gem of a series. :)
Mosher Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Wonderful series, excellent acting. Apparently the chess greats said it got the atmosphere at competitions right, and the respect for doing it justice shines through in the performances 2
