This is my first time with a book club. How far do we go? What's the process?

Some groups comment as they go, others wait to comment until they have finished it and usually have a set time before they allow others to post spoilers for those who aren't finished. Since Barney Rebel started the thread, what do you suggest? I am getting ready to start it this weekend.

Deadline of a month is probably enough. Then we'll discuss.

Started reading "Ghost Rider" today. It remains one of the most candid memoirs I've read so far.

I'll admit that I only started reading Neil's books from this year. Didn't quite have the time until now. It is proving to be therapeutic in a way.

I do like to get into his mind, to be honest. It is very intriguing to read his thoughts.

I opened up Masked Rider again and found 3 things to share right away:

From the Preface, "It used to be said that the elecronic media would bring the world closer together, but too often the focus on the sensational only distorts the reality -- drives us farther apart." (First published in 1996; more true than ever today!)

From Chapter 1, "But that's the good part about the future: it doesn't have to contain any flaws until it becomes the present."

From my simple perspective - How much brass do you gotta have before you wanna go bicycle riding through Africa?! This amazes me about Neil. He must have astronaut-sized balls. There's Dark. There's Fires. There's Strange Music. There's moss in the trees and shadows along the side of the road. There're Warnings posted and Warnings whispered. The accommodations are frightful, and No One in his group of 5 even speaks the language fluently!!!

I remember we saw that bunghole who was laughing and trying to force his gf to stand on the glass floor despite her obvious terror of heights

Got the hardback copy of Far and Near from the library, it is so much better to see the pictures as you read the story. I also lucked out buying two copies from my local B&N, softcover but new. An inital search last week made it seem that there were none to be found locally but I did a second search and found these. Going to give the second copy to my sister for her birthday, she really loved Neil and she was the big Rush fan in our family from early in their career. I found them late but better late than never, :sigh: Edited by Rhyta

You go through these books and it’s like you’re on the road with Neil traveling with him. You wake up and get on the motorcycle with him, stop for breakfast with him, go on some obscure ride with him, arrive at the venue with him to go to "work", after the show, have a Macallan with him, have dinner, then go to sleep on the bus to start the next day again.

After going through 2 1/2 of his books almost listening up to three hours a day I finally found a section where he traveled some roads that I’ve traveled

In Chapter 4 of Roadshow, Magic Shows and Golden Roads he mentions he goes over Mount Hamilton Road from Livrmore to San Jose and that it was one of the most windy roads he’d traveled on in the US. It’s nice to know that he was on the same road that I have gone on as I've gone up Mount Hamilton Road to go hiking sometimes. Also he mentions going to the Bay Bridge toll plaza and their “Dyngus” is all mixed up and sends him back down to 680 to San Jose. Well 680 goes by my house (even though 880 would’ve been a straighter shot for him (had we known each other he could have called me for directions!) R.I.P. Neil.

Been listening to Ghost Rider the last three weeks on my morning and afternoon drives. I read the hard cover when he released it. This was my favorite book from Neil. I need to read Road Show. I did not really get into Far and Wide and Far and Away. The Masked Rider was ok. Edited by Todem
