Babycat
For the record, I didn't create this board. It was RushRevisited's idea to start it, then we all went to work. He's the one who was instrumental in getting this place off the ground and established with his experience and resources. I'm just the one keeping it going. Thank you for keeping it going! :DAgreed! :notworthy: For 73! :notworthy:
grep
I'd still be a fan of rock music for sure. ACDC, Priest, Maiden. Metallica for sure - they blew me away when they first got started. Yes, and the prog crowd too. Lord knows who else would have filled the space if Rush were never around. Some other rock band who was passed over, perhaps. I'd still have wanted to be a bass player, Cliff Burton, JPJ, Entwhistle, Squire. Keyboards and synths, maybe not. Ged was my inspiration for wanting to be a bassist and part time keyboard player. But without Rush, then Maiden and Metallica (and many other bands) wouldn't be nearly the same! So very true. Both those bands got started out with many other influences though. Perhaps they wouldn't have taken on their prog tendencies in exactly the same way. Makes me think about whether or not any other band would have eventually blended prog and metal in a way similar to Rush. I"m not saying they're the first to have done it, but AFAIK, the most influential in that genre. The "Godfathers of Progressive Metal". I know there'd be no Dream Theater. NIN might not have existed, Trent cites Signals as a bit influence in the use of synths and other sounds in a rock context. Would Triumph have kicked off, not having Rush next door? Who knows? BTW, I just heard that the Bureau of Temporal Investigations wants to have a word with all of us, as soon as they wrap up with Captain Sisco. RUSHHEAD666
This website wouldn't exist and I almost certainly wouldn't be married to the woman I am since we initially met on a Rush message board.I bet she wishes Rush didn’t exist. Are you typing about my ex wife? LOL! My EX hated RUSH but went with me all around North America for 20 years. Lifeson even handed her a pick on the "S&A" Tour at Marysville Ca. She kept that pick in a Tiffany box for years. When we divorced she asked me if I wanted it. I said, "Keep the fuckingg pick, I already have three. Now get out of my house." My house has been haunted ever since and I am very serious. Signed, "La Villa Strangiato"
RUSHHEAD666
I would have spent less time learning how to play La Villa. That's crazy! I just wrote a post and ended it with "La Villa." I can play it very well on the drums Rick.

RUSHHEAD666
I don't know. Considering right now. i can count on 1 hand the times i've played them un the last 2 years. i'm barely a fan at this point. Mick Come on Mick!!!! THE LULL IS OVER!!!!! You are a great human!! Take a deep breath. Relax. Put on the first Rush record and work your way up to at least "Power Windows!" You've got this! You are one of the best posters on here. Don't give up on the boys! I took a long break from Rush on my drum kit. Last night I played "Hold Your Fire" and "Moving Pictures" I was good but my right arm turned into a piece of rubber. First time ever. I was freaking out. I learned that I shouldn't have just jumped on the kit after taking time off and just going for it. I should have just played to one record. I'm going to start playing every day for 30 minutes to get my stamina back. You need to get your audio stamina in order for some Rush music!! Time for some "Viagra Signs!" LOL!!!! A mood lifter indeed.

It's a long story Johnny.I wish I could call you and tell you over your phone.I think I mentioned the mild paranormal activity that goes on here in my house in some ghost thread or something. So lots of stuff has happened here and yet I've only seen one small thing. The ghost stuff was seen years ago by my ex wife and my youngest daughter Skylar. Let me see. Ok.... So many many years ago I bought a Ouija board. Now back then I didn't know you should never play with a Ouija board alone.Well on one fateful night I did.My girls were in bed and the wife was too tired to play.So I lit a candle in my living room while watching some horror flick. The Ex was asleep on the couch. I played with the Ouija board. I met a 9 year old boy named Steven. Now in my mind I thought it was bullshit. But the board really spelled out his name. Then I asked him how old he was and the plastic eye glass went straight up to the number 9. At that point I was done. So many moons later minor stuff started to happen in the house. Of course I was never around to see it. 1. I had an old Sony boom box in the garage. It was unplugged for years and not even sure if the batteries were any good. One day Wendy and Sky came home from school and they heard music playing in the garage. The both went in there and the boom box was playing the radio.Wendy shut it off. They went back inside the house. An hour later they could hear music playing again in the garage. They went back in and turned it off once again. 2. One day the ex was home alone doing laundry in the daytime. She closed the washer door which was on the side not on the top. She locked the door closed. She took a shower. When she came back into the laundry room the washer door was wide open. She shut it again and started it up. The door was locked. Yet when she came back in to check the laundry the washer door was ajar again. She freaked out. 3. One day in the house my ex wife was alone. Before she showers in the late morning she makes sure the front door and the sliding glass door are always locked for privacy. After she showered she was calling for our pug Earl IV. Yes, I have my son, a pug. I am Earl III. Anyway Wendy gets out of the shower and usually Earl the pug is in the bedroom waiting for her.Earl the pug is nowhere around. She starts panicking and runs to the living room where she sees the front door is wide open. She is worried about Earl and runs outside. Earl is rolling around on the front lawn playing with an invisible entity. Like a small boy. 9 year old Steven?I don't make this up dude. The original owners were a sweet couple with two daughters. Just like Wendy and I have. Weird. 4. So finally something kind of freaked me out yet I have real no concrete proof. I always leave the den light own in my house. It's where my computer is. It's where I become a Keyboard Cowboy on this very own Forum! But one night I was going back and forth in between rooms watching the Warriors game. I NEVER turn the light out or close the den door. As a commercial break hit on the boob tube I went back down my dark hallway and guess what? The light was off in the den and the door was closed!!! As i sit here in my den alone tonight I am really not worried about any of this stuff. Although just the other night I have a fake LED candle outside on my table in my backyard. It's been out thee for three years. Well three nights ago I noticed that the candle was flickering all by itself. It freaked me out but then I thought with all the rain and stuff it was probably just a malfunction. But then the fake candle stopped flickering and remained light for hours and hours.I didn't touch the candle and the next night it started to flicker again. Very weird shit but I am sure it can all be explained. What do you think JB? I just watched Poltergeist the other night. Epic flick. Nothing happened. BOO! I think that I’m glad I asked!I think all of these happenings occurred due to a ghost/ghosts, or some of them did, or none of them did. I don’t think them being the results of the supernatural (or not) really matters...unless these occurrences really scare the shit out of you. Which they don’t seem to. And reading your stories here, I realize you did tell a few of them before. Thanks again for sharing.
rugen
Can't say what I would become if Rush didn't exist. A world without Rush I guess! I was a fan of Led Zep, Yes and Genesis before Rush, so I would probably still listen to music obsessively of that genre. However, I could say that my connection with Rush is closer than any other bands, especially with all of their albums before Presto. Since 2012, I have been more excited with any Steven Wilson release than I was excited with a Rush release after Hold Your Fire.

CrimsonE
This is a very somber response, but there is a good chance that I might not be here if it were not for the inspiration of Rush. During my college years, I was going through some very rough times. Today, I can see them for what they were, but in the middle of them, I was incredibly depressed. At one point I had reached the brink and was seriously contemplating suicide. However, thinking of the lyrics of The Pass is one of the few things that kept me going.

Why were you depressed? How did you shake it off? I've always taken things (including myself) way too seriously at times and always judged myself by high standards, which I often didn't meet. It was much worse in college when I didn't have any true friends and struggled to connect to anyone. I'm not sure how I shook it off other than to take each day one at a time. It helped that I had (and still have) a family that cares for me, someone I can talk to, although I often didn't always feel like it at the time. It took me years to reveal how deeply depressed I was, and I shouldn't be that surprised that they (including mother) knew. I still had bouts of depression here and there until I found my true calling in life, which was to be a teacher, for which I am grateful. I am still a bit of a loner, but I've come to accept that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
