Principled Man
Watching the replay of that play, it just looks like such a fluke! For the ball to come off the bat just so, and then hit his kneecap just so -- the odds of that have to be astronomical. Bummer for fans of good players, in whatever shirt they've got on. Earlier this year, Lorenzo Cain fouled a ball off his knee in two straight games. He was lucky to escape with bruises.

goose
Over the past ten games, the Indians have gone 7-3, as have the A's. The Rays went 8-2. Tampa is up .5 on Oakland and 1.0 on Cleveland. So much fun!
goose
The Athletics use nine home runs over two days to take a pair from the Rangers. They now lead the AL wildcard race by .5 over the Rays and 2.5 over the Indians. Davis, Laureano, Murphy, Neuse, Semien, Chapman, Cahna, Olson providing a balanced offensive attack and some pretty good defense as well.
Nova Carmina
Things are getting tight all over! The Cards lead the Central by only 2 games, and play against the Cubs in something like 12 of the next 12 games, I think . . .

goose
Meanwhile, in Oakland, Davis breaks an eighth inning 4-4 tie with a go-ahead single, but A's closer Hendriks has a rare blown save giving up two runs in the ninth. The lead is one game over the Rays, 1.5 over Cleveland. For the A's, shortstop Semien got his 29th leadoff home run for the year, which tops the A's leadoff record of 28, set by the great Ricky Henderson. Principled Man
Sorry, Pirates fans. Your once-proud team has taken another hit with the arrest of their closer, Felipe Vázquez. :( :( :(
Principled Man
Fenway Park's crowd gave a very nice ovation to a player for the other team. The Giants' Mike Yastrzemski, grandson of Carl, hit a home run to center field, to the delight of his family and the many Yaz fans.

goose
Hahaha! No one wanted to bite....... Love it. Bring it on. A's baby!!Cleveland and Tampa are tied, two games behind the A's. Great hitting, along with some solid fielding and strong pitching has led to a 9-1 over the last ten games. And this week, Hendricks set the club record for strikeouts by a relief pitcher in a single season. :dweez: Whatever happens, this has been a phenomenal year for A's fans! Edited September 21, 2019 by goose
goose
And how good are the three teams fighting for the AL wildcard spots? Well, the A's went 9-1 over the last ten games and that was only good enough to give them a 2-game lead. Both the Rays and the Indians are playing great ball. goose
The A's put up seven in the first in a solid win over the Rangers tonight. Semien got on base in all six at bats. The Rays beat Boston, while Cleveland lost to the Phillies. A's lead TB by 2 games, Cleveland by 3.
