treeduck
The sun is multiple different colors. It just appears to us as white. Our eyes aren't sensitive enough to see that the Sun actually emits mostly light in the yellow-green part of the electromagnetic spectrum. We see it as white.

Here's a visual of what you two describe, the sun's light spectrum: Rainbows are evidence of this, of course.

Principled Man
Our star looks yellow but high in the sky where there's less atmosphere it appears white. Which is it? When the Sun is near the horizon (sunrise, sunset), there is much more atmosphere to scatter light on the blue end of the spectrum. That’s why we see yellow, orange and red.

But I'm talking about is what we'd see if our eyes had greater colour sensitivity. In this case the sun would look yellow/green because its black body spectrum peaks in the yellow/green region. Our eyes can't register the difference in brightness across the visible part of the spectrum.so we register the colour of white.
