Gompers
If you like metal and Gavin, might I recommend something from OSI? Be aware, Mike "All About Me" Portnoy plays on the first 2 albums. Harrison is on the latest 2.Have the OSI stuff. Not bad.
GabesCavesOfIce
Caught the TTB tour at PlayStation a couple weeks ago... As an SW noob (thanks to TRF, TOST and Polarize and others for posting about SW and PT relentlessly) I am late to the game but am enjoying experiencing his vast catalogue for the first time in recent years. TTB is definitely a departure album, but despite his claims of being like an 80s pop record, it's difficult for SW to not have significant prog elements in his music. I won't say much to spoil his TTB show, other than Pariah (with it's unique screen ) was stunning live. .

Gompers
I know I have expressed my lack of appreciation for SW solo stuff...but I have really been mesmerized by the song Drive Home. Wow. I almost don't want it to end.

Presto-digitation
Saw back-to-back nights on this tour. Also heard him go off on Greta Van Fleet, people who can’t enjoy pop, not wanting to hear fans discuss the prog metal band they’re in, and his complete and utter awareness of Warren Zevon. He was in rare form. :D
stoopid
No one wants to hear about the crappy band they're in, otherwise SW would be attending your show. :P

tangy
Still digesting the show. Great night Bumping this to say that stevens newest " to the bone" is by far my favorite since foabp. I have grown to appreciate the incident but it not rated highly by me and the earlier sw solo discs are brilliant but i did not connect. Anyways if you loved old pt but had grown luke warm with sw, check out to the bone. Touring now in north america
stoopid
I'm finally getting around to the royal albert bluray. Pariah live definitely works better. Nowhere now was a surprisingly good opener. People who eat darkness wasn't working for me though. That's as far as I managed today in the show. More soon. I like most of TtB, it just doesn't rank at the top of his output (solo or PT).

Shut up and play.
stoopid
It's all subject, Stevie. Shut up and play. I like that he's willing to put himself out there, warts and all. I've never put anyone on a pedestal, so having him reveal his (flawed) humanness is not a shock to me. He's being genuine, which is always a win in my book. He also played Routine at the show I was at. Completely unexpected. Wow. His last two, TTB and HCE are both incredible albums. One with long form song prog brilliance, the other with shorter poppier songs with prog blended in. Let’s face it, SW can’t not do prog. It’s in him to the bone.

stoopid
Home theater is finally setup after the move. Finishing the SW bluray. Great stuff, the remainder of the songs from To the Bone were great, especially liked Song of Unborn. Highlight was Blundell owning Sleep Together. Entire band was tight, but Craig really elevated the performance. Great sounding live show overall too, but I'd expect nothing less from SW. He puts his all into these tours. Inspired me finally buy Opeth at Red Rocks. Unemployed (hopefully not for much longer) and need some music to fill my life.

stoopid
I think one reason Steven didn't push too hard for Guthrie to return was the lack of backing vocals, and TtB has a few tracks with a strong vocal element. Now he has three vocalists (including himself, 4 if you include Ninet). Alex Hutchings seems to sing well, although he's not particularly known for it(?).

I'm not aware of one event affecting the other. The reason they gave publicly was the next Aristocrats tour clashed with SW's next album/tour, iirc. But if any of them wanted they could of course have made it happened, so whether SW didn't push hard enough to have Guthrie back or they truly were deranged enough to skip out on the best thing that's happened to either of their careers... ?
