3rd row from the Gedmyster with 15,000 behind me was surreal. Also talking to them on Rockline was cool.

  1. The solo on Strip and Go Naked on Victor is so effing creamy. His tone on the whole record is great but that moment stands out the most to me.
  2. So thankful for what Neil and the band has given us. Such a vast catalog that will continue to be the soundtrack to our lives.
  3. Like many, I kinda wrote this album off. I got it when it was released (was only 12 at the time) and was surprised by its adult themes....Only listened to select tracks maybe every other year or so... Now I'm 34 and this record resonates more than ever. I love the attitude. The songs I skipped over the years are hitting pretty hard now. Maybe because I'm jonesing for some new Rush and this underappreciated album is filling the gap... Despite any opinion, you have to agree, the lead tones on Victor are some of the sweetest and creamiest Lifesons ever recorded. I could go on...
  4. Always thought Middletown Dreams held that title.
  5. All this talk, 9 pages of back & forth bickering and absolutely no mention of the one and TRUE answer: ROBERT FRIPP
  6. As an aspiring engineer & producer, everything you said is correct. Good ears AND experience/training. Learning how different frequencies react to compression and EQ is a fascinating thing. There are so many ways to achieve the sound you want but unless you know how specific microphones, preamps, compressors, EQs, converters and even computer software work in tandem with each other, it's more or less a crapshoot. NOBODY goes into a studio for the first time and rips out something like Dark Side of the Moon or Aja. Of course, the first and foremost thing to a good recording is the musician and performance. And every time a session takes place, the engineer learns something. It is a constant process of enlightenment. There is no plateau.
  7. I thought Guthrie went after SW and Marco had that little public tift a while back? Cant imagine Guthrie sticking around after what Marco said about Wilson.
  8. Audio Fidelity Gold Disc is as good as its likely going to get. (Although I haven't heard the 2016 Magee remaster yet.) I confess that I haven't stayed up to date with any remastering jobs. I will be looking into this ASAP. I really want to have a full, rich Presto in my catalogue. I have an original vinyl pressing of Presto and granted, my playback system is NOT CHEAP but Presto sounds very good. The term I would use is 'high definition'. Very clear but very flat. I think the production was a bit of an experiment, suited for the times. There's bottom end there but not as round as some people would like. I appreciate it for what it is.

  11. Any of the earlier albums sans the debut "Life In a Day". The one that got me listening/understanding was the dual release "Sons & Fascination/Sister Feelings Call". Groovy, angular, trancy, inventive new wave. Derek Forbes is extremely tasty on bass.
  12. Simple Minds is one of the most underrated bands out there. They've released 18 studio albums!!! Not all of them are good but most are and some are FANTASTIC. "Walk Between Worlds" is definitely one of their good albums- if not one of their best. Im a U2 fan (absolutely LOVE their 90s electro album trilogy) but SM is the better band. Glad this thread was started. If you haven't yet, check out their albums "Graffiti Soul" & "Black & White 050505". What a band.
  13. Absolutely love it....One of my favorite solos from Alex as well. He picked the perfect melody and phrasing for that one. Chills every time.
