    Tied Up Albums

I can get through my Top 11 pretty easily, but the remaining 7 albums get pretty difficult to distinguish between (well, 6, the debut album gets put at the bottom). If I had to pick the two that are the most difficult to decide between, it would be 2112 and A Farewell to Kings.
  2. I've only seen the Time Machine tour, to be fair, but most songs I was either expecting more from or they were on par to how I thought they would be--the only song I think I grew an appreciation for afterwards was Witch Hunt.
  3. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ May 27 2011, 08:39 PM) Rush has lots of variety. If he used to sing high, and now he sings low, then what is that but variety? It's good that we can have both for recorded music, not for concerts. It's him losing his voice--I wouldn't exactly call it a conscious choice towards variety.
  4. QUOTE (EveryNerveAware @ May 27 2011, 07:19 PM) I didn't want to start another thread for this but what about the word "honey" ?? I'm trying to think of a song with that word and I'm at a loss...?? Besides the aforementioned, "In the Mood" also uses the word honey.

I had been listening to Rush since 2008 (I'm currently 20), idolizing them and being inspired by their every song. When I finally saw them live for the first time last July, I'll admit I got teary-eyed during the opening of "The Spirit of Radio." No, I didn't breakdown and cry, but there was something working up. Just seeing the band that had become my life musically and hearing those notes I had become so familiar with--it was overwhelming for a moment.
  6. In the Mood Before and After Neurotica Digital Man has Baby[lon] if you want to count that That's it.
  7. QUOTE (tcbroonsie @ May 25 2011, 03:31 PM) Perhaps it was Max Webster opening for them and the boys joined them on stage to play that song. Max Webster opened for them on the Moving Pictures tour, not the ESL tour. According to Wikipedia (take it how you will): "Among the highlights of the band's career were their New Year's Eve shows at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens. Geddy Lee of Rush joined the band onstage to sing & play his Rickenbacker bass guitar for "Battle Scar" on December 31, 1980 when the band headlined the show."
  8. I think (?) I get it. This site lists the 9 types (each type corresponding with a number). The songs listed fall under a certain type (due to the message/lyrics of the song). If that's correct, then I think it's a very interesting (and unique) analysis of the songs
  9. Even though it's 90% joke/10% serious it seems, I voted it was my favorite live album. The setlist (for me) is absolutely perfect.
  10. QUOTE (FoxxiStarr @ May 25 2011, 02:31 AM) QUOTE (HowItIs @ May 22 2011, 06:20 AM) I think he was being facetious. Lighten up, guys. What she said .. Lerxst - 80% goofball, 20% serious I'm no fan of the heavy synth stuff on (shudders) HYF. My personal opinion is that they lost their way big time on that album, strayed too far from their roots. I don't get how "straying too far from their roots" is a genuine complaint about a bands work. By this logic, AC/DC is the greatest band of all time. Rather than respect the fact that the band, heaven forbid, changed up their sound once in a while, we instead complain that not every album sounds the exact same. Technically the bands "roots" come from that Led Zeppelin-esque crap off the first album and very few of us want that.
  11. I looked it up and still don't get it. Would you be willing to explain what all of this means in layman's terms? It sounds interesting.
  12. The list looked fine up until 2112--it's not really for the absolute beginner unless you're just looking to impress them with a 20 minute song . If they're mostly into pop, you're better off slowly getting them into the more abstract stuff (2112, LVS, etc.). I think the list could use some Signals or GUP, but that's just my opinion.
  13. Augh, is By-Tor still here? Looks like I'm repeating my vote.
  14. Alex has a nasty habit of not knowing when to shut up. If keyboards aren't real, then by that logic the band is non-existent. How many songs of theirs literally have no keyboards and how many of those are generally liked?
  15. I've thought about it, but since I keep my phone on vibrate/silent for the most part, it's rather superfluous to do so. Also, I hate listening to just part of a song, so I would probably put it back to silent after a few calls due to sheer annoyance. Also, I would hate to hear it so many times that I get sick of the song.
  16. I voted By-Tor. But since Armor and Sword was supposed to be gone, is the poll really fair since it now has 5 votes (which should be elsewhere)?
  17. There may be a lot of synth on MP, but Signals was the start of the era as far as how prominent they were and how necessary they were to building the sound. (note that I didn't say anything about other instruments being pushed back since I know that's a favorite argument amongst the haters). There was a lot of synth on Xanadu, for instance, but it's certainly not classified as a "synth" song.

    Jacobs Ladder

QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ May 19 2011, 06:35 PM) Meh. Least best song off of PeW. Kind of ruins the flow, the amount of actual kick-butt instrumentel is not that high. I agree completely. Maybe it's the fact that it's constantly talked about around here, but I just don't get the hype. It just kind of drags along and I'm never really grabbed by it.
  19. Besides Firefly and occasionally Star Trek:TNG, I don't care for sci-fi at all. I don't even like fantasy.
  20. Vapor Trails--the music itself is raw and distorted, the picture (which I read was meant just to be a rough draft) characterizes the same elements.
  21. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ May 15 2011, 04:20 PM) This stuff is great. Oh stop. You bumped what was probably the oldest thread on the forum (nearly 7 years) with a comment that means nothing because both links are well dead at this point.
