  1. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jan 9 2012, 02:40 PM)I remember reading either one of the band or one of the production team saying that this concert video was "better" because it was made by fans (the BTLS guys) and therefore the camera would be pointing at the correct band member during the big musical moments. I then remember watching the video and thinking that they were talking "bollocks". It's no better or worse than 90% of rock concert videos out there! Overall it's pretty good but it isn't flawless by any stretch of the imagination. I totally agree. The only difference I see is lots of (imo) pointless shots of fans, less close ups and not as good picture quality. S&A Live is so much better in that respect I feel - I have never seen any other concert video that nails the camera angles and picture quality as perfectly as that one does.
  2. QUOTE (ghostworks @ Jan 9 2012, 12:51 PM) a decent drum sound! (for the love of all that is holy let us pray for the abandonment of the DW's...) What's wrong with the DWs? To my ears, Different Stages and Snakes and Arrows Live are by far Neil's best drum sounds - both with the DWs. Anyone else agree?
  3. How could you possibly have this poll without including the Muppets' Christmas Carol?!
  4. QUOTE (proudlyrushian @ Jan 3 2012, 11:21 AM)...what did I just hear? WHY? I love TSS. What's wrong with it? I mean, I get what's wrong with Nelly's version (everything). But why so much hate on the song? I love the song too - along with the rest of HYF. So no hate coming from me I just thought Nelly's cover was pretty amusing, that's all!
  5. QUOTE (InvisibleAirwaves13 @ Jan 3 2012, 12:51 PM)Complexity does not equal better...Neil has more feeling and a better sense of timing now. Just because something is simple doesn't mean it is not good or an improvement. Complex just means complex... Songs suffer from trying to add too much...too many fills and flourishes when something much simpler fits better. That is where Neil has improved so much. I remember in the past folks would complain that while Neil was certainly a master of his craft, he lacked musicality and tried to force drum parts to work rather than finding the right fill etc... Now he has it right. A great mix of power and feel and the musicality is there! Truely he is now "The Professor"! Exactly! It's not that his playing is more complex now (though with the improved technique he has now, he could easily make it so if he wanted to). The changes are more subtle than that. He varies his strokes more, plays with more dynamics, his body is more relaxed and he just gets a better sound out of the kit than he used to - many due to him making more use of rebound and not burying the stick into the drum. If he had not gone to Gruber when he did, the chances are he'd be having some serious carpal tunnel problems by now - possibly to the point where he'd have had to stop playing.
  6. Well I don't think it's weird but I suspect you lot will - I LIKE NICKELBACK... A LOT!! I don't understand the flak they get at all!
  7. All I can say is it could have been worse... much worse
  8. Hold Your Fire for me. But I don't agree with any of these albums being "stinkers" at all. In fact both PoW and HYF are both in the top 5 Rush albums for me with HYF being 2nd only to Moving Pictures. There are no songs on either album that I don't enjoy listening to and for the most part, I really like the keyboards too - I couldn't imagine songs like Mystic Rhythms and Open Secrets working without them, despite what people say. Hell, I even enjoy most of Presto though there are a couple of songs on that album I find to be real clunkers (especially Anagram ). Each to their own I guess.
  9. Here's a couple of vids from that show if anyone's interested... Between the Sun and Moon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyYj9lo3IgU Bits of Secret Touch, Dreamline, By Tor and the Snow Dog and The Spirit of Radio: Enjoy
  10. The most annoying shit is people who dissmiss a whole genre of music, such as pop, as being shit. There's good music and bad music in just about every genre and to anyone who denies that, all I can say is you're missing out! You know who you are!
  11. Snakes and Arrows live for me. IMO it's the best edited and mixed live video. It's got some great close ups and really shows you the detail of what the guys are playing. This is something I thought was lacking a bit in Time Machine - not enough close ups and wayyy to much of the audience. It is great to see an audience enjoying a band but when I buy a live video, I want to see the band play and I want to see what they're playing - audience shots rarely do much for me at all. I'm very surprised to see most people saying that the editing's better on TM.
  12. Finally the truth about Neil's lyrics is unveiled... who'd have thought?
  13. It's not a trilogy - it's got 4 parts (potentially 5 after CA). But yep I think it'd great live. I made a poll about this quite recently too. http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?showtopic=69347
  14. It's a great song but I think YYZ should open on the next tour. That would be immense!
  15. I can't think of any song from Presto or Roll the Bones where the studio version sounds better than the live version.
  16. QUOTE (Lost In Xanadu @ Dec 9 2011, 02:08 PM) QUOTE (Drummerrobin @ Dec 8 2011, 06:26 PM) QUOTE (Lost In Xanadu @ Dec 8 2011, 09:53 AM)Honestly - does anyone care that much? There are now 3 thread regarding the same subject. Please answer my 2 questions... 1. After all this BS, if they finally get in - will you be happy? 2. Wouldn't getting in after all this time actually be more of a slap in the face than an honor? 1. Yes, I would be happy because they totally deserve it - more so than some of the acts already in there. But I'll remind you that there are also some very deserving acts in there too such as Led Zeppelin, The Who, Cream, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and The Police - all of which have been influences on Rush. Does Rush deserve to be associated with them? Absolutely! It would probably open a lot of people's eyes to the band too, how can that be a bad thing? And I'm sorry but I get the impression that there are a lot of people on this board that are pretending they don't care about the Hall of Fame, but I bet as soon as Rush get inducted (which I think is only a matter of time) they'll come out of the woodwork and celebrate along with everyone else. We shall see... 2. No more so than never getting in. And as I said earlier, they'd be put in along side some legendary names and they can finally be seen as a peer to those bands in terms of legacy and influence. How could that possibly be a slap in the face? And your point is...? I only said what I thought.
  17. QUOTE (fonzbear2000 @ Dec 8 2011, 06:41 PM)QUOTE (presto123 @ Dec 6 2011, 01:57 PM) Yes Rush are great guys but this thread is ridiculous. They are not even close to being the most fan friendly. Their meet and greets are limited and structured and one member won't do them period. Some bands change their setlists nightly because they know that's what fans want. I could never see Rush doing that. They do things on their own terms and I respect them for that but it doesn't make you the most fan friendly band in the world by any stretch. +1 +2 But I think there is such a thing as being too fan friendly. If Rush had simply done what people wanted them to do in 1982 and made a PM/MP part 2, they would have probably burned themselves out years ago. One of the main things that's kept them together all these years is them doing what they want to do, how they want to do it. Staying true to yourself and not to others' expectations of you is one of the greatest attributes an artist can have imo. This is something Rush have done and for that I have real respect for them.

  19. QUOTE (trenken @ Dec 8 2011, 09:15 AM)QUOTE (eshine @ Dec 8 2011, 02:37 AM) QUOTE (trenken @ Dec 6 2011, 09:33 PM) but honestly at this point I personally think he should consider dropping the key of even stuff like Moving Pictures. He's clearly struggling to sing all of that stuff. Give me a break. Fast forward to 1:45. Sorry, he sounds like complete garbage there. Serious strain in his voice. That sounds good to you? I'm a big Rush fan, but I'm not delusional and won't pretend he can sing these songs well anymore. He can't, so dropping the key is a very good idea. No shame in doing it. Oh please... yes maybe he is shrieking a little there but honestly to call that garbage seems absurd to me. He still hit the top note fine and no way is he out of tune - unlike many many other rock singers, some of them half his age. I think if you heard that while you were at the show you would have barely noticed any strain at all. I know I'd be too busy enjoying the music and the energy of the band to go nitpicking about the odd vocal strain here and there. If it really bothers you that much then just don't go in the future but all I can say is you'll be missing out!
  20. QUOTE (presto123 @ Dec 7 2011, 06:57 PM) Hold Your Fire? NOOOOO! Grace Under Pressure full record would rule! P/G's a good album but I find it a bit clinical at times. Nothing really wrong with that but there are just other albums I'd rather hear. Down to personal taste I guess.
  21. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Dec 7 2011, 03:17 PM) I imagine you're only considered in the minority if you're dying to hear Tai Shan or High Water played live. Outside of that, I am with you on basically all of HYF. Open Secrets is one of my all-time favourite tunes...and I would LOVE to see this LIVE. Prime Mover and Lock & Key as well for damn sure! Open Secrets, Prime Mover, Lock And Key and Turn The Page would all be great live I think. Hell, I'd even be up for Tai Shan and High Water!
  22. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Dec 7 2011, 12:26 PM)QUOTE (Cyclonus X-1 @ Dec 7 2011, 12:37 PM) QUOTE (Drummerrobin @ Dec 7 2011, 09:45 AM) Besides, if they were to play another album in it's entirety, I'd much rather see them play Permanent Waves. I'd be on board with this. Unfortunately, it seems they've soured on Jacob's Ladder. Yeah...Neil actually discusses it in his new DVD. He mentioned that they were trying Jacob's Ladder, but that it didn't work for them now. Then again...they always said the same about The Camera Eye, and then it showed up. So...I guess you never know... I know I'm probably in the minority, but if I were to have another complete album live, I think I'd love one of the synth era albums, like Power Windows or Signals. I've only been going to shows since 2002, and I've only seen 6 out of 16 songs from those two albums (Subdivisions, Digital Man, New World Man, The Big Money, Marathon, and Mystic Rhythms). To me, I'd rather see those 10 songs than just Jacob's Ladder and Different Strings. It was the same with MP...all amazing songs, but the only new one I hadn't seen from the last few tours was The Camera Eye. With Power Windows and/or Signals, you get the quality AND the quantity. I wouldn't give up hope on Jacob's Ladder just yet. Remember that The Camera Eye was rehearsed for the R30 tour and then dropped, but it showed up again on the The Time Machine tour and the band have said it is now one of their favourites to play. Just because the band feels a song isn't right for a particular tour doesn't mean they won't consider it again for another tour. And if they were to do a synth era album live, I'd vote for Hold Your Fire. So many great songs on that album that have not been played live for years or at all in some cases (e.g. Open Secrets). I suspect I'm in the minority here
  23. Always had a real soft spot for this video - very well made and suits the song perfectly I think. This one and The Pass might just be my 2 favourites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-ZjNl5aOoU
  24. QUOTE (Don Quixote @ Dec 7 2011, 09:34 AM)Circumstances stunk tuned down a full step - Hemispheres would suffer with that. Disagree there, I much prefer Circumstances tuned down - makes it sound more heavy and badass. I'd say the same for the song 2112, but whether it would work for Hemispheres and other songs on the 2112 album, I don't know. Besides, if they were to play another album in it's entirety, I'd much rather see them play Permanent Waves. IMO it's a much stronger album than 2112 and it would be a lot less taxing on Geddy's voice. Seems like the obvious choice to me.
  25. QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ Dec 5 2011, 10:37 PM)I like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuWcb7xe_RM Frickin genius!
