  1. The Cleveland '74 version of this song starts out every live Rush compilation I've made since discovering this recording more than 20 years ago. The Electric Ladyland version is right up there too.
  2. I'm thinking about becoming a smaller Rush fan myself.
  3. This isn't going to be a completely direct comparison since Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures were two different tours. But listen to St Louis 1980 and then Exit...Stage Left (Or start with Exit...) and then say which one you prefer. Unfortunately, the bonus tracks on the Deluxe Edition of 2112 (Edmonton 1981) can't be directly compared with Exit... Stage Left since they don't appear, but they do sound similar to St. Louis 1980 from the previous tour. I'm over simplifying it, but they drained the energy and liveness out of Exit...Stage Left. (And despite all that they still couldn't kill off that smokin' version of Freewill!
  4. I'm going to guess you already own the versions on the Roll The Bones single as both of those live recordings are taken from the Exit...Stage Left album. I've never done an A-B comparison on these so I'm not sure which sounds better. So, if you're not a collector, you may not be interested in it. I don't have the Roll The Bones German promo myself, but I do have the German CD single that was available commercially which appear to be the same thing. The unique artwork is what interested me in the single.
  5. There's a Rush Complete Volumes 1(red) and 2 (blue) that also has music and goes to Power Windows. The lyrics (such as they are) for the first album are in the first volume. There's also a Rush single volume that only goes up to Signals.
  6. I wouldn't go that far, but they are nice to have if you can find them reasonably.
  7. Sounds like possible promoter fraud to me. A secret show (small club) was actually played once on 12/18/96 but it was during a tour.
  8. There's always a chance of them being copies if you can't verify a backstory.
  9. Nice display. I continue to fail in my quest for the Holland 12 inch of Subdivisions. I think that 12 inch of The Body Electric may be almost as rare.
  10. I don't know why, but I've always loved that black cover version of Archives. I wonder what the story behind that was.
  11. I missed all seven of them. Five because of ignorance and the two others because I thought it was more important for me to see them on their actual 30th birthday August 14, 2004.
  12. I was going to ask if you played anything post Signals (because most Rush tributes I've seen seem to think the band stopped after 1982) and then I checked your website and it seems you got some of that covered. Hopefully I'll be able to make this...
  13. http://www.cygnus-x1...ush/tsor-10.php That letter struck a particular chord with me when I read it at the time because I questioned the edited drum solo and leaving off the first 43 seconds or so of Witch Hunt.when I reviewed the album for my school newspaper. Of course at the time the reasons for it weren't readily available To this day I always think of 'My edit is my answer" whenever I hear Witch Hunt or the drum solo from that album.
  14. Great job guys! Wow, this brings back memories. I discovered these in the late '80s in New York City when I made my Rush bootleg runs. Issue 8 is how I discovered Dream Theater after picking it up at Revolver Records. Later, I was a subscriber and was able to get all of the back issues. I actually called Mick a few times to straighten out some subscription problems. Nice bloke. Found out about his passing online. The issues became more difficult to get in the later years because of US distribution problems. I think I'm missing about 15 issues, mostly the later ones and while I'm still on the lookout for them it will be nice to at least peek at them online. I was never able to determine how many issues there were. I think the last one I managed to get hold of was around the Vapor Trails era.
  15. Holy erroneous metadata aggregation Batman!
  16. Thanks. I'm going to put Asia in Asia on hold (I've listened to it plenty of times anyway) and get into this as much as I can and save the rest for later.

    Rush Collection

That depends. It can only be as complete as you want it to be.
  18. I always thought Janis would've done a great version of Here Again... I guy I used to work with 25 years ago thought it was Janis Joplin on Here Again! I had just taped a copy of the double album to listen to while at work having just bought it and he was fooled when he walked by when it was playing. I never forgot that becuase I never made that connection until then. By the way, some may not know that by some incredible luck, Neils first show with the band is out there (8/14/74 Pittsburgh). It doesn't sound nearly as good and it's only about 25 minutes because they opened for Manfred Mann and Uriah Heep, but it's out there for those that enjoy that stuff.
  19. It's pretty cool. Definately unique. I'm not as big a fan of it as some people and I only got around to getting it around 20 years ago. The odd size makes it impossible to put it in with the other 45s.
  20. I'm intersted to find out what the source is for this recording. If its MP3s, like the ABC release is said to be, then its useless to me. If not, I may be interested to add this to the half-dozen or so other recordings of this that I have.
  21. Never been a favorite of mine either, but I was interested in its origins.
  22. I sure wouldn't have minded seeing The Flock. I hadn't really heard them until I bought their CD about 15 years ago because I read on the back that Jerry Goodman was in the band.
  23. Yeah that name came up. Someone, maybe Lillywhite, was going to do the job and then backed out right at the beginning of the recording sessions. Rush went ahead on their own and Grace Under Pressure was already underway when Henderson stepped in. This is why someone in the band needs to write a book. This whole era would make for interesting reading. I used to assume Neil would write it, but he doesn't seem to be in any hurry or he's waiting to write it after they retire. They should maybe take the Beatles Anthology or U2 By U2 approach to it. All three of them can do it. Except that I wouldn't bet on anyone in the band wanting to take on such a project. It's been a while since I pulled it off the shelf, but I think Jon Collins' Chemistry might be the closest that we get to finding out what really happened during this period.
