What Rush Song Are You Currently Listening To? v.3
BigMontanaSKY replied to 1-0-0-1-0-0-1's topic in Rush
Catching up with the first retrospective album. (From first album to "Permanent Waves".) -
That's hilarioussssss
-
Kind of a different take on this- apparently the Runaways HATED the guys in Rush, to the extreme. I'll chalk it up to 1970s Machismo, plus the Runaways were started as a novelty that turned into a legit band. The photo of Rush and the Runaways sitting together in a diner is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. My personal opinion- it's absolutely NONE of our business.

What if the guys in Rush aren't your heroes? They are. I didn't want to get all personal but meeting them might alter all the happy memories I have of enjoying/discovering their work. I realize other people can have totally valid different feelings about that.
-
In a fantasy reality, I'd love to meet Geddy Lee. However I like to bring up the saying "Don't meet your heroes" here....These guys are human (with superhuman creative abilities) and to me I'd prefer to live without talking them up.

Metallica postpones Australian tour as Hetfield enters rehab
BigMontanaSKY replied to blueschica's topic in Random Samples
Saying this as a lifelong Metallica fan, and as a local to where the band started- I feel deep empathy for him. I know Metallica has not always been "cuddly" but their success was a product of great hard work, talent and connecting with audiences. My personal guess is what's going on has a lot to do with some tragedies in the band's past. I don't want to get morbid or overly sad here. I wish Hetfield the best and that he is healthy again soon. -
Mindhunter. (Warning- it's profoundly disturbing. And grim. And serious. Don't watch this series if you don't have a tolerance/ability to put the series content out of your head afterwards.)

Agreed. Today is "autumn crisp" with sun, so- the nicest of both Fall days. Warmth of sun and the feeling of cold air/breeze.

This reminds me of a joke that one of my neighbors told me, years ago: What’s the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? With a porcupine, the prick is on the outside. This SOOOOO much......

Interesting interview with Geddy in Chicago for BBBB
BigMontanaSKY replied to blueschica's topic in Rush
Thank you for sharing this. IMO a LOT of wealthy people in music do snap up collector's item instruments. My friends in Nashville have several, but they're stored away- they don't just take them out and mess around with them. I'm sure Geddy bought some of Entwistle's instruments. It would make a lot of sense. -
Hunter S Thompson had an accurate quote about the music business....I'm not going to post it up but someone else might. It's all a money game. It was quite the era, full of interesting things that were happening.

Most treasured item in your Rush collection?
BigMontanaSKY replied to MalformedEarthborn's topic in Rush
I have a 24 KT gold plated CD of "Signals" (I got it at the Wherehouse yearsss ago) I have traveled a LOT in the past 2 decades so a bunch of my Rush collection got played to death or sold at yard sales. No biggie I was going to upgrade all of it anyways. -

Counterparts, Power Windows, and All The World's A Stage

Thank you for posting this. When I commented on this thread earlier I didn't realize OP had passed away. In a few days I'll be mourning the death of a longtime friend who died young, and was really too smart for this world (I say that in a loving, soulful way.) I know his spirit is at peace. I meditated on him after many months of mourning, just randomly breaking into tears at any reminder of him. I dreamed of him & the dream seemed to tell me, He is where he wants to be. My advice to all about life and living is- "be glad Life happened, not that it ended."

Giblets aren't too bad if you cook them right. -

I have one..I barely use it though. I do use other sites to keep in touch with friends and family. Not all social media is evil. -
Real or Not Real? Zombie Chicken Meat??
BigMontanaSKY replied to Principled Man's topic in Random Samples
CGI doctored video. Dressed and partially deboned animal meat cannot move like that. Ask anyone who has hunted and prepared their own game for dinner. -
The R40 Tour: Was Geddy the only member that was happy?
BigMontanaSKY replied to fraroc's topic in R40 Tour Forum
Wouldn't base any judgements on ONE gig during a tour. Alex could have just had a bad day.(though he seems to be the moody one when something goes wrong.) That said I watched about 85 percent of the tour on periscope and saw 3 of those gigs myself and if took them about half of the tour to get in shape and they really didn't start humming until about two-thirds of the way through. At times it was painful for me to watch, Seems that both Alex and Neil went heavy on the extra curriculars and Geddy admitted being low key staying in his room and going above and beyond to protect his voice so he was the one who seemed to be sacrificing the most and yet he did seem to be the happiest, at least to me. Well Geddy Lee likes what he does. Also- I used to play a bunch of the riffs from Permanent Waves. They *feel* heavy to play...maybe Lifeson was just communicating his mindset through his expression. In the Rush concerts I've been to he always appeared gleeful. & Nothing against Neil but he's been apparently "wishy washy" on touring since the late 1980s. NOT in any dramatic Axl Rose style that invites bad gossip. It's a thing that has been talked about..... & Lastly not all of us look thrilled all day at work. If so people would get increasingly scared about why any given person would be smiling and laughing all day. In some cultures that's a sign of mental problems. -
The R40 Tour: Was Geddy the only member that was happy?
BigMontanaSKY replied to fraroc's topic in R40 Tour Forum
IMO you're reading too much into this. ALL of the band members have made polite statements that they all understand the tours are for financial enrichment of both themselves and the employees they hire to put the tour on. In the music business the almighty dollar is the ultimate decider about whether an act even tours anywhere, and then personal preferences of both artists and investors are considered. If you read about the recent history of high earning musical acts, there's some serious friction that happens before major decisions are made. I'm not going to name drop but some of the funniest urban legends in rock music have to do with long running grudges and disagreements between performers and their management. -
Geddy pawned his typewriter to see Led Zeppelin in 1969
BigMontanaSKY replied to blueschica's topic in Rush
Oh definitely. He probably will. This was a cute story. I've been poor enough in the past to hit up the pawn shop for $ and it's not always a great experience. I am glad he got a great return on that venture. -
