I just realized, since the title of this thread is a double negative, should we list our favorite Rush songs?

Hmm... It would be a mixture of Roll The Bones and Hold Your Fire with The Weapon thrown in their someplace, I'll have to think about this more for specific ordering though.

That makes sense. For me, I tend to love newer albums just as much as the old. Clockwork Angels is still the #1 Rush album for me, and The Astonishing is in the top 3 Dream Theater entries in my opinion.

Geez Lorraine. It's not "Face-Up". Unworthy is "I think I'm Going Bald". Or "The Big Wheel"...most of RTB or Presto. An embarrassment? C'mon dude. I'm not a dude. And, yes, it is an embarrassment to me. He probably prefers it to Xanadu. "More metal" Yeah we know it's not Xanadu OK. Nothing else is. However, Halo Effect isn't excrement. We can point to other works in the canon that absolutely are...Halo Effect is not one of them. It is not Face Up. Or Neurotica. Or You Bet Your Life. O wow...I really dislike RTB... I'm right there with you. Roll The Bones is like...what?

So after reading feedback from albums like Clockwork Angels and more recently Dream Theater's The Astonishing and Megadeth's Dystopia I started to see a pattern. It seems like if a band has been around for 30+ years the fans tend to nitpick and criticize any new work done by them, often more than I personally think is fair or justified. Could it be that these bands just genuinely lost their touch and can no longer produce good music or does the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia prevent certain fans from seeing the flaws in old material and the good in the new? For example, if Hemispheres, Images and Words, or Rust in Peace were released now instead of their original dates, what would the fan reaction be? Please note this isn't aimed at anyone specifically, and it isn't intended to criticize or offend anyone. I'm just asking out of pure curiosity, for science.

Yes, but The Camera Eye has that beautiful synth part that goes wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah (etc).
-
I agree, beautiful song indeed! I can say the same for the whole album.

Rush is three talented and creative musicians coming together to explore different musical horizons and write music that stands on it's own as good music. Kiss are a bar band with goofy makeup.
-
I love them both to death, but Snakes pulls slightly ahead.
-
How could you not love this album?
-
Of course I adore them all, but out of them I'd say I Think I'm Going Bald stands out. I still don't think it's bad by any means though, it's just different from the rest.
-
I love Available Light but I gotta go with The Garden!
-
I'm gonna say The Camera Eye although both are outstanding. I just find The Camera Eye a bit more interesting.
-
Surely this has been done before, but it seems to have been a while. ;) You know how this goes.

70's and 80's This or that Rush Song

I actually love both, but the slight edge goes to Dog Years. They're just awesome songs all around. (And no I'm not being sarcastic, I genuinely love these songs.)

My dad wrote "When I leave I don't know what I'm hoping to find, and when I leave I don't know what I'm leaving behind".

I've never had a facebook, so I'm a bit clueless on this all, but that is hilarious.

Presto isn't BAD it's just...forgettable. I like it but it's so unremarkable I often forget it's even there. Roll The Bones I genuinely dislike but I remember it because it's insulting to me, Presto is just..."oh yeah, that exists".

Nope. Counterparts amazingly devoid of any musical talent, so it is too bad to be considered. Agreed. Why do you hate it so much? The worst lyrics of their career, clear pandering on boring music, and virtually nothing of merit from a song writing perspective. Just an atrocious album in every way other than the sound. You're wrong but it's all good! :P

Nope. Counterparts is amazing. :D Agreed. To me it's their final masterpiece. Musically, "Alien Shore" totally RULES! Always wanted to hear that one live. Definitely a masterpiece, but not their final. ;)
