Nope ! not overated. UNDERATED. Joe Satriani is playing Art galleries and is going to be playing with Spammy Hagar this summer. Vai never stayed with any band he played in more than two albums. Alex who was never considered a fretboard wunderkind had a 40 year career in a legendary band who had over a dozen Gold and Platinum records. Its not about ftretboard gymnastics and pyrotechnic licks . it is about making memorable songs. Permanent Waves is a masterpiece and he was what 30 years old?

Geddy himself said he didn't want to be in a band without Alex and Neil. I must admit I have anxiety thinking they may play with a drummer I do not like ( not naming names ) . Rush had a perfect end to their career. And I hate to see that ruined. Those are my concerns. Now if they called it anything other than officially "RUSH" well all those anxieties for me go away. And what a great opprotunity to play with more musicans . Other singers , Keyboardist. ect.

I would say I like CA better then Roll the Bones , Presto , Hold Your Fire , Feedback, Vapor Trails , Snakes and Arrows, Caress of Steel . But not more then the early 80s releases and the epics from the 70s .

John Butcher Axis OMG I remember now . Yes not too impressed with that set . Also I was not too happy with cringing through Candlebox too . Maybe I was judging them too harshly since I just wanted to see my favorite band.

I swear I heard about five seconds of Subdivisions during tonight's game ( 11-30-21 ) at approx 8pm PST. The Organist broke out some :rush: for all of us to hear. I think I'm losing it ( pun intended ) I just hear a few bars of Fly By Night also :eh:

Was listening to my Sears knock off Walkman while at school and my friend Louis ( thanks man ! ) asked me if I ever heard of RUSH. I said no and he gave me his Moving Pictures Cassette. As I walked home from school I was instantly hooked. I wanted to know all about this band . I even opened the case and read the liner notes. Alex Lifeson Guitar , Geddy Lee Bass ( Geddy????) and Neil Peart Percussion. I went from listening exclusively to Jazz artist like Maynard Ferguson ( I was in school band ) to being a certified RUSH fan. This was about 1982 and I think right before Signals was released. I immediately went to Hot Records and Tapes and bought used copies of all the RUSH I could find . And man was my mind blown. That Synthesizer solo in Circumstances man ....wow ! And Permanent Waves ... I didn't stand a chance.

Half speed and detuned Rush is still better then most bands but it is still half speed and detuned. Neil is finished . it is over for him . I can just imagine his relief.

Technically it is not as complex as say a Satch or Vai or Van Halen ect ect . But as I said time and time again that was not Al's bag , He was never going to be a fretboard tour de force. But he makes up for it in feeling and musical composition. In fact I would dare to say that players like Petrucci ect can learn a lot by remembering that. My eyes have never glazed over 10 seconds into a Lifeson solo. But even with the best of those wanker guitarist I get impatient and waiting for the finger gymnastics to end. VH is the same to me, he never bores me . Even though he can be accused of playing like that also. I play guitar myself and it is not jealousy on my part. I just can't get into those type players. If it can't keep my interest I am not going to want to listen to it more then once. Or try to emulate it. Anther good example of this is Elliot Easton's solos . I know a lot of people would tell me if I knew how to play like that it would interest me more. But I argue if I need to do that to like it , It is probably not that good to begin with.And La Villa is a perfect example of his fantastic style. I love it and would rank it up there with the greats because he is one ,
