  1. I suspect this would be an excellent question for Geddy and Alex at some point if it could happen.
  2. I think most of the explanations on a producers job don't hold water. There is something of a head coach parallel here. That said, I think Bill Scymxzyk working with Rush around that time would have been excellent. I would be more excited about them doing an album with him over Terry Brown doing it again. Yes, you read that right.
  3. Depending on the contents, I would buy it too.
  4. Someone left out The J. Geils Band.
  5. IMO the best American band of all time is The Doors. I don't think Aerosmith was even the best band to come from Boston (that award goes to a sextet that also put out their first album in the '70s).
  6. Could the Guess Who be mentioned in this?
  7. This hurts. Easily the most depressing death in popular music IMO this year (I would be surprised if someone I hold in higher regard kicks the bucket, but there is still plenty of year left). RIP.
  8. I agree, but won't hold my breath. At best, I see a complete Toronto release. I think a full concert from another date would be even better (and preferably from the first half of the tour). Again, I will believe it when I see it.
  9. All that seems to be on there is what you found.
  10. A teaser of Rockford 11.13.76 is on YT.
  11. I am a BIG ice cream fan, but 3 children under 12 can strip the desire to keep it in the house.
  12. I don't know about top 5 of all rock, but it is easily one of the better '80s tunes (same for the first half of that decade, which I think was more interesting than the second half).
  13. A partial video exists. I am sorry you only saw them once, but at least you saw them!
  14. I suspect this also applies to movies.
  15. I am sorry I needed this thread to remind me of your birthday. Please forgive me. If it helps, I am older than I used to be too. Happy birthday man!!
  16. I should put my copy on to remind myself. I don't remember too much being different.
  17. Given that it did not seem to appear onstage until 1983, I wouldn't trust it. The black Steinberger L-2 appears to have been onstage from 1983-1986. The last appearance of a Steinberger was the white one in 1990 and that was used on at least 2 occasions.
  18. My bass book mentions '79, so this was a piece of info I was aware of. What I forget is when prototypes were available. I just checked The Bass Book by Tony Bacon and Barry Moorhouse. On page 52, it states that the bass was shows at a trade show in 1979. Steinberger tried to sell the design to other companies with no success, so he and 3 partners formed Steinberger Sound in December 1980. This company launched the bass at 2 large music trade shows in Frankfurt in 1981. Because of this, I am not buying the idea that Geddy had a Steinberger while recording Moving Pictures. Given the audio recordings available from this, my guess is that he picked his up in January 1983. I could be wrong on this.
  19. That would make me wonder why he sat on it for that long and how exactly he managed to get one in the fall of 1980. I have a history of bass book I need to check, but there may not have been prototypes available then.
  20. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the state just paid that dome off last year. But, you know, sports are such an economic positive for their cities.
  21. The photo with the bike and the books is a nice tribute.
  22. This might be the best explanation yet as to why there is no live material this time around. I wonder if it is done or if GUP would be the last time (assuming there is a box set and that it has live material in it).
  23. Agreed. Easily his best sounding drum kit of his career.
  24. I don't think Geddy was behind it. I think Neil wanted to give it another shot. In seeing some videos recently, the way his cymbals were set up appeared to be ever so slightly different from the way they were when he used that kit configuration. He also had his concert toms at the pre-AFTK height as well, and you could see how this altered his approach to the descending rolls (he would skip his highest-pitched mounted tom unless he started there or started from his snare and then moved up to them). I think that if Neil had lived and any Vegas residences occurred, I don't think he would have gone back to that. The ergonomics of the double bass kit did not have the circular motion that he benefitted from later. I am truly grateful I saw R40 twice. Seeing him on the double bass kit was the best way to go out.
