Why do you suppose more males than females are Rush fans?
78jazz replied to Tom Sawyer's topic in Rush
Assuming all of the male fans are sexist does not help your cause. -
What Is It About Neil That Makes So Many Grown Men Cry?
78jazz replied to presto123's topic in NEIL PEART - 1952-2020
The last half of your sentence nails it IMO. We are aware that death is the great inevitable, but picturing the world without Neil is a bummer. A BIG bummer.. I did not completely break down, but I have been misty eyed several times in accepting that Rush is done because one guy is no longer here. RIP Neil. Thank you for what you did. You had a great run of lyrics from about 1985-1994 that will probably stick with me for life. -

Where Did You Hear The News A Year Ago Today?
78jazz replied to _hi_water._'s topic in NEIL PEART - 1952-2020
From one of the guys in the band. It was quite the bummer for me. I did have to run an errand shortly after and was surprised to hear Red Barchetta on the radio. On Thursday, the only song I heard driving around by Rush was Freewill. It was after the band solo 6/8 section and I cranked it as soon as I heard it. RIP Neil. -
The Guess Who for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

That makes sense, since IMO only Rush was a better band to come from Canada (I do like The Tragically Hip as well.) -

A sad anniversary approaches. What are your plans?

Count me in for this too. -
Oh. Er, sorry. I am sorry if this nosy; do you happen to live in Montana? My wife has family there and I have been twice. It would be nice to live in Western Montana one day. IMNSHO it is the most beautiful place in the United States.

Musicians: Have you identified mistakes in any studio tracks? If so, where?

You can hear the sticks click in the start of the drum break in By-Tor and the Snow Dog. -

The Blues Brothers most certainly deserves to be in there. -
I doubt that. They have the most sophisticated, well-trained tongues in the world. I've done a lot of tasting and can easily tell the difference between a $5 wine and a $17 wine. But your point is still kind of true. Inside the industry, most experts acknowledge that the best balance between quality and price is at $22-24 per bottle. It gets much harder for the average person to tell the difference as the price climbs after that. If you make it yourself, it is even cheaper than that!

I realize I may have been a bit salty, but as a Doors JUNKIE it drives me nuts that the default explanation for some of the insanity with that band is that Morrison was always ripped (yes, there were times when this did cause problems - most famously in Miami but I believe Cleveland in August 1968 was one notable incident as well. There is a relatively famous photograph that appears to depict just how ripped he was). Ironically, he dealt with this topic in an interview in the summer of 1969 (I forget if it was June or July, but I do not think it was August) saying that he wondered why people liked to think he was high all the time and then suggested maybe people thought he could take the trip for him.

40 yrs ago today, one of the worst of my life
78jazz replied to driventotheedge's topic in Music Of The Spheres
I was born almost a year after this death and maybe it is because of my current age, but the 40th anniversary was not lost on me. I heard Instant Karma on the radio that day and I wanted to sing along, but I am quite loud in that department. May he shine on, and on, and on, and on... -

I would say it is a sell-out on the surface, but IbanezJem may have this one right. They are his songs to sell and that catalog could have been tied up in legal hell had he not turned it into something a bit more liquid. My only question about this being an income thing is that he is currently 79 years old. He probably does not even have the time to spend it all (and that is probably not why he did this). I realize we will probably never know and I also accept it is none of my business (so I do not lose sleep over this), but I would be curious as to the thoughts of one Jakob Dylan on this.

Truth here! (I also FINALLY plan to send you something I have been needing to send you for a while today)

This is an excellent summation of the movie. I do not think I would call myself a die-hard, but I am a serious fan and student of Zappa and think this movie did an excellent job of humanizing the man. I saw this movie with a friend who was not familiar with Zappa but now has total respect for what he was trying to do.

I saw this at a theater on Monday. It was a most enjoyable documentary. Not only is Dweezil not in it; none of his children are interviewed in the movie.
