  1. Yeah, so long as a guy's still got most of his hair - maybe just receding in the front a little - keeping it long like Geddy does also tends to mask the receding/thinning. I'm just glad he never cut his hair short. I can't even imagine...
  2. Sorry for bumping a year old debate, but i disagree. He had all his range and power, to me, all the way up to the Hemispheres album. Listen to the Canadian Bacon bootleg (12/10/1977), The Different Stages live album (2/20/1978) or the Providence 1978 bootleg (1/12/1978) to see that he still had it. It wasn't until the tour where he went downhill. For instance, compare 2112 from one of the bootlegs mentioned to Black Forest (5/28/1979), and you'll see. Debating a ghost eh? Not really. Anyway, why do you think Geddy's voice lost it's screechy sound after 2112? He still sounds great up until Hemispheres in the studio, and the Farewell to Kings tour live. I think he's sounded great for the majority of Rush's career, but I just don't think he was as consistent with powerful high notes after the 2112 tour
  3. Where is the joke? I haven't seen anything funny Me either. I didn't say it was a funny joke lol If it's so obvious why don't you explain it then? Ok then...but only because you asked! Topher Grace is an actor. At the time this song was written, he was not yet born. So there you have it. I don't think anyone actually thinks that Neil was some sort of psychic who predicted the birth of the star of That 70s Show Oh ok. I've never heard the name before and didn't even realize it was one. understandable! I suppose it is kind of a goofy name

  6. Fraroc fraroc fraroc... Do you think Neil should be forced to keep playing until Geddy and Alex are done with him? You seem to have this idea that Neil MUST carry on or he's being selfish. How is it selfish to want to retire after 40 years with the band and a family at home? If you ask me, it's people with your idea who are being selfish. People retire, it happens. It's not selfish when they do it, it's just that people can't go on forever. It's a fact. Neil is old, playing is physically straining for him. He's got a daughter and wife now. Let the man be with his family in peace. What do you think is the better way objectively to end things? 1. Be upfront, tell the truth that this is going to be your last tour and that you want to retire afterwards 2. Say almost nothing, but imply it's over, keep everybody hanging and then as a passing comment say "Oh yeah, I'm retired now." ^^This is called "backtracking"
  7. I agree here. It has some Rush elements, but they weren't in this style anymore. The song is good, but it doesn't compare to others. Well, to be fair, I assume the song was mostly written by Kim Mitchell

  9. I think the print ads are better than the videos. Thanks for posting them. How rude. :( Did you direct the commercials???
  10. Weird...they play both "Freewill" and "Limelight" in the ad for R40
  11. So, if at any point, for whatever reason, Geddy and/or Alex disagree with Neil about something, Neil is wrong? That's what you appear to be saying
  12. The drama has been there basically since Neil came back from his "hiatus". But being the consummate professionals that they are, it was all kept behind the scenes. So you think for the most part they won't even be on talking terms from here on out? I know, i know why should we care but I think the reason fans find this stuff fascinating is because Rush always seemed to be one of the few bands out there that was drama-less. I guess I should have always read into the fact that they rarely do interviews with neil its always separate. But just found it surprising that all this stuff was going on behind the scenes. I do find it hard to believe that something in the next decade or so won't at least bring him out of retirement for at least a one-off gig. But from the sounds of it they are event on talking terms and it might stay like that permanently? I think a lot has been going on behind the scenes since the eighties. Didn't Neil want to call it quits back then after HYF or Presto? Let's not forget...Neil has consistently referred to Geddy and Alex as the "guys from work" in his books. He came into the band as the third wheel, the new guy. Perhaps he has always felt that way. If so, Geddy and Alex hold some responsibility in continuing to make him feel as such, thus, it's not so hard for him to walk away. I see a distance between the two life-long friends, and the third man. Perhaps Neil has tried and tried to become more than just a business partner with Geddy and Alex, and somehow not connected to them in a way that is soul satisfying, or deeper than just band-mates. This thing is more complex than we can imagine. Really, I see two people competing for the attention of Alex. Just look at the dinner lodge video. Geddy really doesn't listen to Neil, or appreciate his humor. Yeah, that green bananas joke really falls flat
  13. To me, it just sounds like Geddy is being as optimistic as possible (probably for his own sanity) and there is a small chance that Geddy and Alex may be able to get Neil in for one more album
  14. A bit ago in this thread, you said you only had a problem with "how" Neil was choosing to retire. Now it sounds like you have a problem with his retiring. Neil ain't the one refusing to understand something here...
  15. He's right! He probably did tell her that! It is simple. Kids are good at repeating things! I can just picture Ol' Sourpuss (Neil) saying to young Olivia, "Your daddy's a retired drummer now! I'll be home all the time (except when I'm off on a "mid-America hate ride!!!)"
  16. I have an inside source that says Alex wears custom-made pajamas with little Geddys all over them
  17. That would be super cool! I'd love to see them get involved with Danny Carey, Vinnie Paul, Stewart Copeland, or Jon Theodore
  18. Foo Fighters wouldn't be my first choice, but I'd love to see Alex and Geddy working together again
