  1. I like Dreamline a lot. If they could edit out the rap, I would like RTB almost as much. Ghost Of A Chance is good. The rest I could do without.
  2. Essential Live Albums: Allman Brothers - Live At Fillmore East (should be on everyone's list) Grateful Dead - Live Dead (let's face it - studio Grateful Dead sucks. They are a live band - plain and simple) The Who - Live At Leeds (it goes to 11) Zeppelin - How The West Was Won (big improvement over Song Remains the Same) Those 4 came to mind easily. I have a hard time to come up with 2 more, but it would be from the following: Simon And Garfunkle - Central Park (relaxes me like no other album can) Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsies (who the hell are Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding) Frampton Comes Alive (no explaination necessary) Exit...Stage Left (there's got to be more than 3 guys on stage, right???)
  3. Really like Meddle. I would rate it #2 on my Floyd list behind Animals. And yes, Fearless is a kick-ass song. San Tropez and Seamus do get skipped over quite a bit when I've got the disc in though. "tjtull"'s review is spot on for me.

    RUSH in 3D!

QUOTE (drbirdsong @ Jun 8 2011, 08:25 AM) 3D is getting better all the time with or without glasses. Check this out: http://images.doctissimo.fr/1/private/priv...y-tyrex-big.gif Pretty cool. Hadn't seen anything like that yet (that I recall).
  5. Hawaii comes first to mind. I have never been to any of the New England states, so Maine seems like a logical choice of the 6.
  6. QUOTE (Good, bad, andrush @ Jun 6 2011, 07:49 AM) QUOTE (CMWriter @ Jun 3 2011, 05:50 PM) I think my folks like her. Me, I think she's okay... But grating voice? Nah. There's much, much, much worse out there. Like Geddy, right? I'm glad you said it, not me.
  7. I agree that the venue has a huge effect on the sound quality but overall I think the sound quality has improved. Too bad the "Wall Of Sound" was before my time. I wish I could have heard that live. Wall Of Sound
  8. QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 6 2011, 09:05 AM) QUOTE (CutToTheBass @ Jun 6 2011, 09:03 AM) QUOTE (metaldad @ Jun 6 2011, 01:56 PM) Far Cry Point goes to metaldad! There is one song on this list which isn't totally awesome, and it's Far Cry. And whoever voted for Natural Science... I will find you. Hehe about natural science. I think some people are just trying to mess up the poll. I refuse to believe anyone likes far cry and caravan more than songs that got votes like red barchetta, spirit of radio, natural science. How is that even possible? It's possible. I don't understand either, but for some reason people like to listen to Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber as well.
  9. QUOTE (Silas Lang @ Jun 4 2011, 12:51 PM) Her singing is full of expressiveness, sincerity, emotion and possessed a raw passion that seems to be sorely lacking these days. Abrasive and rough around the edges at times but that's rock & roll. Cheap Thrills is an undeniable classic, essential. Well said. It's the soulfulness and emotion that that does something for me. It certainly doesn't need to sound 'beautiful'.
  10. Rush was certainly the reason for me wanting to pick up a guitar and learn to play. I got myself a Hal Leonard book which taught me the basics. I already had the Rush Complete Volume I (Rush - Hemishpheres) and Volume II (PeW - PoW) songbooks. I got them for the lyrics and the fact that I might actually be able to learn the guitar some day. With a few chords under my belt, I was confident that I would be the 2nd coming of Lerxst. That idea quickly went to shit. Boy was I in over my head. Then I started college and mellowed out somewhat in my musical tastes (Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead). Those songs were certainly easier to play and I started to develop confidence and with that, you play and practice more and more. A few years later, the internet became mainstream and tablature became very easy to get (bye-bye subscriptions to Guitar World and Guitar For The Practicing Musician). I was never one to pick up stuff by ear, so this was like the holy grail to me.
  11. The bottom 8 currently on the list are the 8 songs I could easily vote off. I can't understand why anyone would want to vote for anything from GUP or earlier (until we get into later rounds). Went with Caravan.
  12. In chronological order: All The World's A Stage - made me a Rush fan Moving Pictures - made me obsessed with Rush Led Zep IV - discovered that other bands could rock other than Rush Fillmore East (Allmans) - Duane Allman rules Live Dead (Grateful Dead) - opened up a whole new dimension for my mind. Not a clear #6 for me but it would be one of the following: Floyd - Animals, Yes - Relayer, Jimi - Are You Experienced, Derek And The Dominos - Layla, Live At Leeds - The Who, Gov't Mule - Gov't Mule (certainly not thier best album, but it's what started it for me)
  13. QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Jun 2 2011, 01:53 PM) War Pigs by Sabbath, Masters of War by Dylan or What's Goin' On? by Marvin Gaye.....my 3 favorite anti-war songs of all-time. They should all be proud of their efforts. Imagine - John Lennon In My Life - The Beatles (written by Lennon) La Villa Strangiato cuz it's a unbelievably spectacular piece of music Blue Sky - Allman Bros. (written by Dicky Betts) cuz it's one of the "happiest" songs I've ever heard Angel - Jimi Hendrix I reserve the right to add more as the days go along and I think of other songs. I like this list. I think I will choose: La Villa Strangiato The Fountain Of Lamneth In Memmory Of Elizabeth Reed (Allmans Bros) Dark Star (Grateful Dead) White Summer -> Black Mountain Side (Jimmy Page) Wiser Time (Black Crowes) Dogs (Pink Floyd)
  14. It does have a little more 'heaviness' to it then the previous few albums. It's a good attempt. This album (correct me if I'm wrong) marks the return of Lerxst to primarily Les Paul's which is a great move. It needs more guitar solos though. I would place this album at around the #14 spot of Rush albums.
  15. How about the St. Louis 1980 show. The best Natural Science ever (or that I've heard) and a great La Villa.
  16. Caravan. Still in mourning over losing By-Tor
  17. Seeing Rush at a festival doesn't seem to enticing for me. Typically higher price and probably a shorter Rush set. I was thinking at first about the high cost, but as much as the tickets have been the last couple of tours, it might be cheaper.

    Tied Up Albums

QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ May 27 2011, 08:34 AM) QUOTE (apetersvt @ May 27 2011, 07:34 AM) The number one spot for me is generally a toss up between COS and Hemispheres. I usually try to respect people's opinions, but wtf????? And I'm not talking about Hemispheres btw. Bastille Day is a decent song. I Think I'm Going Bald is pretty much a throw away. I really dig Lakeside Park. The guitar playing in The Necromancer is absolutely phenomenal (I can do without the narratives). What raw energy and emotion. Never matched again. The Fountain Of Lamneth is such a wonderful story and the music is so appropriate to the theme. I can't get enough of it. I rate it so high because it has my favorite two Rush songs on it (and probably my favorite tunes from anybody). In the theme of Hemispheres: My mind tells me to go with Hemispheres because it truly is a flawless album. The heart tells me to go with Caress Of Steel because I love it so much.
  19. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ May 26 2011, 04:55 PM) I am starting to be convinced this is a conspiracy. Why are caravan and BU2B still alive? Because we keep voting for both of them rather than just for one of them. I guess we should start a secret alliance and pick just one of them to vote off (and then the other for the next round).

    Tied Up Albums

The number one spot for me is generally a toss up between COS and Hemispheres. It then goes to AFTK, 2112, but then another toss up between PeW and MP for the 5 spot. FBN comes in at 7, followed by Rush at 8. Then there is a huge mess trying to figure out #9.
  21. I just learned what the title of the Song/album is about. Certainly nothing to do with snow. Anybody else know??? (Good song as well)
  22. I believe that I read that it was performed with Max Webster during Soundcheck
  23. QUOTE (Cosy Toes @ May 25 2011, 05:18 PM) Lame. If ATWAS is the Everest of Rush live albums, then ASoH is the Dutch Alps. Mmmmmmmmmmm, Munchkin Rug Munchin' It's not that bad. It certainly achieves the elevation of a large hill. I haven't listen to it in probably 5 years or more. I do remember buying it the day it came out in both CD and tape format. Not wanted to wait the whole 5 minute drive to get home to my CD player, I had the tape to listen to for the car ride home.
  24. How about accidentally putting ICY-HOT in your genital regions.
