    Autism

QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ Sep 8 2010, 10:07 AM) Here is an article from my local paper (online) that tells about a guide dog who helps an 8 year old boy with autism (along the lines of a seeing eye dog): http://auburnpub.com/news/local/article_2d...1cc4c03286.html I've never heard of this before but it's a great idea if it works for sure. I have several children with Autism Spectrum Disorder that have benefited beautifully from working with horses, especially because it works to create an emotional bond. We have one child who is relatively severe on the spectrum (no language, no emotional connection, very aggressive [he hits so, because I have epilepsy, I cannot side walk with him anymore], cannot recognize his parents- very, very sad), however, we're really hoping that therapeutic riding will benefit him. Generally most of our kids are mild (i.e. what was once known as Aspergers) and are a lot of fun. They get a real kick out of the ponies.
  4. I think it's funny being a Rush fan because I don't even fit in with the female Rush fans. I need a break.
  5. QUOTE (Janie @ Nov 2 2010, 09:27 PM) My oldest (with severe speech apraxia - and who was told by his school teachers that he probably would never talk and would need a talking device for the rest of his life...) can talk! About two months ago he just started talking. He said a FULL sentence that I could clearly understand and within the last few months his vocabulary has taken off. He's an entirely different kid! It's awesome! He's easy to understand and loves talking. After 4 1/2 years, I finally get to hear his voice. Awesome!! I love hearing stories like this.
  6. QUOTE (doublereeder @ Nov 2 2010, 11:38 PM) Got dumped, anxiety attacks, nightmares, and school. Woo-hoo. I'm so sorry.
  7. In a battle between the boys... I choose Ged. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/Garbo/rush-cover-lee-l_685141gm-e.jpg "Beauty, eh!"
  8. Laugh all you want, but I found out that the placement of my tattoo is in the top five most painful places to get a tattoo. And I fell asleep. I feel like a legit badass. I also figured out the next two tattoos I want to get. First one, text from Donne's Holy Sonnet I, "Thou hast made me and shall Thy work decay?" and this from Knights of Cydonia (if I can! it might be too intricate and/or too expensive). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/Garbo/148861_462205705736_517040736_6049708_6440589_n.jpg

I love you, and everyone knows it. Ohhhh.... My.... GED(!) Oh, jeez, how I love this man..! This thread should be illegal!!!
  10. God, I feel so out of place here. Tool (1) Kinsey (1) Buddy Guy (1) Itzhak Perlman (3)- he's the only one that if he's in town, no matter the cost, I will see him. Chanticleer (1) Susan Graham (1) MUSE (1) Weezer (1) Metric (1) Plus a whole hoard of operas and touring classical acts and musicians.
  11. I turned a guy down because I wasn't interested in him (he's romantic; I am not; he's stalkerish; I am not; he's not idiot; I hope I'm not). His response? "Nice guys don't like ugly girls" and "Your just messed up in the head" (the grammatical error would be his, not mine) and "you listen to muse because your dumb" (again, grammatical error would be his). Why can't I find a mature guy?

  14. November is epilepsy awareness month. I might have a panel with some doctors on suicide and epilepsy (since epilepsy is one of the leading factors of suicide in the world; sometimes the leading factor), yet little is known about it. Anyhow, just a head's up. Hope you're feeling better, Drum. Just take it easy and get plenty of rest.
  15. QUOTE (treeduck @ Oct 31 2010, 10:37 PM) QUOTE (garbo @ Oct 31 2010, 10:21 PM) I loved Battlestar Galactica (I even met Mary Mc in a sad, but amusing story), however, once the show ended in quite possibly the worst series finale ever, I decided not to get into Caprica. Not too keen on any other spinoffs either. Not to be harsh, but I think Ron Moore needs to let that world just slowly fade. I liked the series finale, I found it satisfying... Hehehe! That's perfectly okay. I actually would love to hear your take on it.
  16. QUOTE (theworkingman @ Sep 27 2010, 10:20 PM) I just want to say how happy I am that I went to the second night of Muse at Staples Center. I thought hearing MK Ultra was incredible the first night. I've seen them twice so far on the Resistance tour (Oakland, Coachella) and 6 times combined but these past two nights (specifically night 2): I have NEVER seen the band like this before and if this is the kind of show they treat their U.K fans to nightly then I have to say that I am incredibly jealous. Matt and Dom both talked a lot over the course of both nights and the crowds were incredible. Bliss Ruled by Secrecy The outro to Stockholm Syndrome on night 2 (The longest Muse jam in history) was so heavy and amazing. Matt was tearing shit up. Even Neutron Star Collision was great. Absolutely incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpzvUPbbivQ...player_embedded Stockholm Syndrome Outro They didn't talk at all Friday night, but I think that's because New Orleans had no idea how to handle them. I'm not kidding when I say most of the concert I was the only one singing and jumping up and down and air guitaring/bassing it. Matt actually looked right at me during MK Ultra because I was the only one doing anything (I was in the fourth row). There were some cool fans that I think like them, but one of the fans bet with me to get closer and I said, "Okay, sing Sunburn for me" and he had no idea that was even a song by them or that Showbiz was their debut album. And don't even get me started on the girls around me complaining to their boyfriends... I elbowed a few of them to get them out of my way. But whatever. I had the time of my life. I've waited a decade to see them and it was worth the wait. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v450/Garbo/40136_461335405736_517040736_6027806_5836684_n.jpg
