Theme Song: Die Another Day

I quite like most of them

Goldfinger. Sean Connery is the man. I can't stand Daniel Craig. He's a crappy actor and always looks like he just ate a lemon.

He looks like a Polish potato farmer who also does weekends as a doorman at a cheap strip club.

Goldfinger is good and so is Connery but I really got into Bond first in the 70's so I am more into the Moore Bond. My wife can't stand the entire series. It's a miracle we have stayed married. We really only have two things in common...

So you'd be divorced if you'd had no kids?

Nobody Does It Better/The Spy Who Loved Me is a fav. And of course, Goldfinger.

Yesterday I rented The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Haven't seen them before because I thought the two previous Brosnan ones were just ok at best.

Will watch these two in the next few days.

Ok then, tell us what you make of them.

It's hard to pick just one, but I went with Casino Royale. Solid in every respect and a good origin story for Bond. I disagree that Craig doesn't make a good 007. He plays the character closer to how Fleming originally wrote it more than any of his predecessors except perhaps Dalton. I will say the recent films could've used a little more humor though. GoldenEye is another favorite of mine and is probably the most action packed of all the films. And I'm one of the few odd birds who loves Moonraker. Sure it's cheesy as hell, but it's a fun movie full of eye candy and action. The worst Bond film hands down is Die Another Day. That was just BAD cheese.

I just finished The World Is Not Enough. Brosnan was ok but the ONLY true positive I could take away was Judy Dench as M. As for the Bond girls, Marceau was hot but non-threatening while Richards was juicy, useless, and unbelievable as a nuclear physicist. Additionally, Marceau & Richards' sexiness was BARELY used. I mean, if they're ONLY going to use them as sex objects then USE them as sex objects and don't muck around forcing them to be otherwise. Action sequences seemed way too cheesedick and there were several peripheral characters that made the movie even messier. It might be the worst Bond flick I've ever seen. It's at least the worst I've seen in the last 25 years. I wanted it to end but I was too stubborn to give up watching all of it.

Grade: F

I still have the other Bond movie to watch but I'm going to need a breather after that bollocks I just finished.

(Edited to add: Robert Carlyle, an actor I like, was so forgettable as the villain that I forgot to comment on him in my original post! He looked like a wiry version of Gru from Despicable Me but not as entertaining)

Yeah the Brosnan Bond films come across like standard terrorist thrillers with some high tech gadgets thrown in. And the same with the two Dalton entries. So really "proper" Bond films ended with A View to a Kill and the end of Roger Moore's run as 007.

Live & Let Die.

This one has got more votes than I expected and it's the joint leader with Casino Royale.

I'm guessing the Live & Let Die popularity (though 3 votes currently isn't really that significant) is also helped by the song AND the fact that they used to play the hell out of it in on tv (before everyone had cable) in the late 70s...stateside at least.

I like it because I like New Orleans, Yaphet Kotto, Jane Seymour, Sheriff J.W. Pepper and it's a good Bond flick in general.

Well, IMHO it IS Moore's best Bond flick...yeah, New Orleans and the ever beautiful Jane Seymour. Best Bond film overall though? Not sure about that.

Well I actually like The Man with the Golden Gun even more, you've got Christopher Lee as maybe the best Bond villain of all, Tattoo from Fantasy Island, Britt Ekland when she was hot, Maud Adams Sheriff JW Pepper again and a kind of Enter the Dragon feel to some of the scenes.
