Syrinx
I am interested in what people think about Neil Young's Pono music player. They used crowd funding to raise money - goal was $800K and they actually raised over $6.2 million. I was one of those "investors". You can read about it in the link below - the link function doesn't work for me so you may have to copy and paste. I am not a "tech guy", but the idea of hearing music as it was created, appeals to me in this age of mp3 files. https://www.kickstar...music?ref=email Edited April 16, 2014 by Syrinx
ThatLightInYourEyes
I've been curious about the whole Pono story myself. As someone who loves music, tech, and Neil Young, I hope this goes well.

CygnusX-1Bk2
It's a FLAC player with proprietary hardware. An audiophile iPod essentially. It was supposed to be a new digital format so I'm a little disappointed that it's using an existing codec for the files. It was proposed as a new digital lossless format. Still curious. ReRushed
If it's an affordable option, add it to the list. I love choice and the market place will dictate its success.

Oracle
It's a FLAC player with proprietary hardware. An audiophile iPod essentially. It was supposed to be a new digital format so I'm a little disappointed that it's using an existing codec for the files. It was proposed as a new digital lossless format. Still curious. One day - and I hope I'm alive to see this - I want to be able to buy a non-proprietary lossless audio media player which has the ability for me to switch out different components (ie, storage options, screens, outer shells, etc.). Google is doing this with a new smartphone, I don't see why we can't do it with media players. Besides, we have the tech no that lossless audio reproduction is easy on a mobile platform, why are people still supporting lossy encoding? CygnusX-1Bk2
Data size mostly. FLAC and even Apple Lossless codec's data footprint is about half that of full res when talking about 44.1 kHz/16 bit audio which is CD quality. MP3 is still the absolute worst. Give me wma or AAC any day.
