2011 NFL Season thread

Well, the 2011 NFL season is about to start, with a game featuring the last two Super Bowl champions (and the only NFL teams to employ the great Jim Taylor), the Packers and the Saints.

The season will start out with a familiar face in an unfamiliar place...it looks as if Kerry Collins will start at QB vs the Texans, as Peyton Manning is listed as doubtful. Since 2004, no Colt listed as doubtful has played, and of the 113 starters listed as doubtful in 2010, none played. In addition, Manning's doctors have indicated that he should skip the game. So the 208 game streak looks to be over, and there is no timetable for his return...

The Jags have cut Garrard, will start McCown. How long will it be before Gabbard is thrown to the wolves?

Manning has surgery on neck this morning...out at least 2-3 months...maybe even whole season and even might end his career...

This could be the chance for Texans to finally make the play-offs...

Tough luck for Manning and the Colts, he's had a great run though...

Even with Manning in lineup I think Texans can take the division this year.

They certainly could, at about 9-7. Last year they had a historically bad pass defense...have they done anything to improve it (besides playing a far weaker slate of QBs)?

Well they've got two good new rookies, JJ Watt and Brooks Reed...

21-17 Packers now.

The game is getting more interresting as it goes on.

The news about Peyton sucks but the Texans will have a chance this year after falling just short for so long. Having a new team in the playoff picture can be exciting sometimes.

Interesting comment, because before the game people were speculating that the Brees lead workouts for the Saints would give them an advantage over the Packers, who had NOT done the same.

I agree though, that it looks like the Packers didn't miss a beat (though neither did the Saints!)

My final Four...

AFC

Steelers vs Patriots

NFC

Falcons vs Packers

Super Bowl

Patriots vs Packers

CHAMPIONS:

Green Bay Packers...34-28

They become the 3rd 5 time Super Bowl champions and defend their title.

Actually if they win they would be 4th 5-time champion

4 touchbacks already...why bother kicking?  Just place ball at 20

I think they will next year. yes.gif

Maybe not tho. Didn't dude run one back for 108yds?

Really do think they're headed that direction.

Will be firece debate.

Hmmm, sounds like good idea for thread.

No, they can't do that, it would eliminate the possibility of an onside kick.
