New AC/DC album "Power Up"?

I was reading the origins of 'the stiff upper lip', and how it pertains to being British apparently.

Why when the phrase is discussed that's there no mention of 'shooting from the hip'?

Why is AC/DC able to put the two together and no one else has?

New AC/DC Album to Feature Malcolm Young on Every Song

By Andrew Magnotta

September 1, 2018

AC/DC's forthcoming album will feature guitar parts by the band's late-co-founder, rhythm guitarist and songwriter Malcolm Young.

While the band has remained silent regarding its future since its Rock or Bust Tour ended in late-2016, signs continue to suggest that AC/DC is indeed forging ahead following Young's death last November.

A new report from JAM magazine, citing a "reliable source inside the AC/DC camp," says the band is keeping Malcolm alive on every track on its new album by using previously recorded-but-unreleased guitar parts of his.

The report adds that the lion's share of Malcolm's parts come from unused songs recorded around 2003, between AC/DC's Stiff Upper Lip (2000) and Black Ice (2008) albums.

Current and (presumed) former members of AC/DC have been spotted this summer around Vancouver, BC, near the band's favorite recording spot, Warehouse Studios.

Guitarists Angus Young and Stevie Young (that latter of whom joined the band in place of his uncle Malcolm in 2014) have been seen at Warehouse, along with longtime AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd and frontman Brian Johnson.

One key member who hasn't been spotted in the Pacific Northwest is bassist Cliff Williams, who retired in 2016. But the JAM report says Williams, too, is recording with his old band mates.

The album is reportedly dedicated to Malcolm, so Williams' return to the studio make sense — even if the bassist declines the chance to tour again.

While we still don't know for sure that AC/DC is recording — one theory holds the band was together for a best-of project — sources close to AC/DC have been wrong before.

One of the band's closest friends, Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson made news this past spring when he claimed Angus was writing a new AC/DC album with Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose on vocals. And that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

While fans are eagerly awaiting more information, one thing they can be sure of is that AC/DC won't remain quiet for long.

Cool!

So I'm not sure if they're using 2003-era songs or using 2003 guitar parts with new ones or what.

Should be interesting ..... hope it doesn't just sound like an outtakes album ...... hopefully not.

You mean like Stiff Upper Lip, Black Ice and Rock or Bust sounded?

Black Ice rocks! Listening to it now.

AC/DC has never recorded an album that I don't enjoy. Not everything is Back in Black, but if you're in the mood for AC/DC, it's all good.

I saw them in 2015 for the first time since 1981. They are the loudest band I've ever seen by miles. In 2015 I saw them at outdoor Gillette Stadium and my head was still ringing afterwards.

OK, here we go...

220px-Black_ice_red.jpg

1. Rock n Roll Train: Classic ACDC riff, with the old Mutt Lange trick of leaving out the bass until the chorus. The song could do with a syncopated bass drum beat to add a bit more groove.

2. Skies on Fire: I like the ringing out of the guitars during the intro much more than the choked guitars in the verses. Not much here to hold my interest.

3. Big Jack: Here we go! This one's a rocker. I can imagine Bonamiling and playing maracas in the background. One of the more interesting late-career solos that Angus has put out.

4. Anything Goes: This is very similar to Big Jack in tone and tempo. Upbeat and danceable.

Halfway through and I can see why this album sold and charted like it did. The tour around the album was a huge success as well (grossing $440 million, 4th all-time!).

5. War Machine: I love the Live Wire-esque intro with the thumping bass! Great groove. Once it gets into the verses it kind of loses me a bit. Just not enough going on.

6. Smash n Grab: This slow plodder is an example of the Brian-era stuff that I really don't care for. I have no idea what he's saying, and the song structure is exactly like what seems like several dozen other side B Brian Johnson tunes. It would fit well on Blow Up Your Video.

7. Spoilin' for a Fight: This is a better...a little more up-tempo. But still...it's got the great bones of an AC/DC classic, but there's no meat.

I'm guessing the balance of the album is going to offer up more of the same, and, frankly, I'd rather spend that time giving Let There Be Rock or Powerage another listen.

I've still never heard either Black Ice or Rock or Bust. And Black Ice was twelve years ago.

You're not missing much.

Confirmed, for Black Ice anyway.
