Why do coordinators cover their mouths with cards when calling plays? Is trying to "steal" signals OK when done by a lip reader with binoculars, but illegal when done with video and game film? If yes, can you explain why that is, practically?

Does this mean I should abandon this team....not in the least I'll continue to root for them since I have been from the beginning in 1971.

Lost In Xanadu
I think most, if not all, teams skirt that "cheating" line as closely as possible. The Pats crossed the line and got caught a couple times. If I was asked to vote in the poll, I would have voted for "yes, they are cheaters". While I think Brady should not lose any time for the deflated balls, that does not mean I think something wasn't purposefully done to gain an advantage. Even if it was only a placebo effect, some advantage was gained.

Too bad more from upper NE don't have the integrity to admit such things. "Reasonable" defined here as "something with which [you] agree." An equally reasonable one would be to just admit you hate them, in part because they keep beating the sh*t out of your favorite team at least once and often twice a season, and have for about 14 years now. And because their head coach is a jerk who isn't kind to people who don't bring value to his life. So anything negative about them you're willing to embrace wholeheartedly. That would take some integrity. But saying they cheat because of the absolutely BS issues of "Spygate" (still waiting on an explanation of technically how that differs from the lip readers with binoculars coordinators are still trying to thwart) and the now completely discredited "Deflategate" is not reasonable. It's a pity that too many Patriot haters haven't shown the integrity to, for example, admit in this thread that they've been proven wrong. And why should they, I guess. As soon as Deflategate collapsed, they dredged up Spygate just to make sure they didn't lose their momentum.

An overinflated ball would travel better than an underinflated one. Are the Dolphins? They let a field get flooded before a league championship game because it would slow their faster opponent down.
