The Analog Grownup Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 What is the record or cd you always have with you when you need to try new speakers? I'm planning on upgrading mine so I want some suggestions to music that will be good to test them on. I normally use Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live and listen to Digging In The Dirt.

Narps Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Try Vapor Trails.... ATWAS!! :codger: :haz: :DI agree but I have never heard it ever sound bad. I figured VT would be the true test. Any system or speakers that make it sound good would be keepers... 2

Narps Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I truthfully don't have any "reference" music. I haven't bought anything new to listen to music on since at least the Reagan years..... :codger: Anything late 70's seems an awesome choice to me..... 1

Lost In Xanadu Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Honestly - I love the complete sound of Sting's Soul Cages album. Top to bottom it fills the house. Also, I love Solsbury Hill's use of the stereo effect
The Analog Cub Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Red Barchetta, title track on 2112, and Pink Floyd's Animals.

MMCXII Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Boston- Boston Stole my thunder! Nice! I was gonna say something by Boston or maybe Triumph 1
greyfriar Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Moving Pictures - MFSL version :finbar: I have the Permanent Waves edition on vinyl.I have that one too. Great recording. :cheers:As for reference, the MP MFSL worked fine for me over the years. I've checked my speakers always with MP and with DSotM, as Mick said. The late 70's is also a hot advice, even if it's too much of a time span to find one special record. I can only speak for myself and I use the Japanese edition of Grand Funk's same-titled album or MFSL like MP or DSotM.Nearly forgot to mention the great Steve Hoffman remasters. Check them out. 1
