The Rush Ratings Project Results:

Thanks to everyone who participated in this project. Sorry it took so long to release the results.

If anyone would like to submit their rankings to be added to the list, please make a post here http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?/topic/85610-the-rush-ratings-project/ once a substantial amount of votes, or time passes, I will re-compile the results.

A special shout out to Babycat who gave every song a 10 which was a null vote (for only increasing every song’s rank relatively equally), but attention is deserved for such positivity and undying devotion to Rush.

A reminder, here was the rubric for ranking. Also all averages were rounded to 4 decimal places, and ties were settled by which song received a lower grade in the lowest rank given section (ties in that were disputed by how many of that lowest grade was received).

After the results of this project, it is evident that Rush has never written a song that is unlistenable, terrible, bad, or merely tolerable/boring. One thing I would like to point out is that Take A Friend was the only rush song that did not secure at least one rating of 8 or higher. Interesting

It's pretty close. The one thing that stands out is that GUP seems to get a higher album ranking compared to how people actually rated the songs on the album.

 

EDIT: Also, (unsurprisingly to me) Vapor Trails is rated relatively worse than people rated the songs.

No. I used your data. You did the hard part. EDIT: I had the idea for the song length weighted album ratings and minutes of "good music" value ratings for a while. Since you compiled a list of the songs and their average rating, it was fairly easy to add the song length and do some calculations. So I was waiting for your data to use in my spreadsheet.

 

Red Barchetta is probably my favorite, so it seemed like a reasonable bet.

After the results of this project, it is evident that Rush has never written a song that is unlistenable, terrible, bad, or merely tolerable/boring. Red Barchetta is not my favorite Rush song (it's up there though), but I can certainly see the argument to be made for it being their best.

The thing is with Red Barchetta is that is was not really the huge adoration for the song that got it the number 1 spot, but rather the lack of hate for it. Lots of good songs on this list got hurt a bit by the odd voter who does not like the song for some reason, but apparently there is no one who thinks anything less than excelent for Red Barchetta.
