Dang Mara, sorry to hear of your ordeal. The aerial shots of the freeways made me puke. I had to sleep on I-285, 3 years ago because of the same thing. Luckily, I didn't wreck, but my trailer got sideways several times. I just pulled over after that. Luckily, I wasn't there yesterday.

Georgia does have the equipment. They have 10 million people, who pay a lot of gas tax, diesel tax, ad valorem taxes when they buy a car, and there DMV fees and tag fees are all higher, but Atlanta is run by a bunch of blithering, bureaucratic, dunces, who don't plan for shit.

The same thing that happened in Atlanta would happen everywhere else, if the roads weren't taken care of when it snows.

The plows usually don't roll til it stops snowing, until then, we're driving through the same business.

I once drove through the entire length of the state of Montana (including the mountains) on unplowed freeway, through a blizzard. It was a miserable white knuckle experience, but you just take it slow and keep your distance from others, and you'll be ok.

Yes, I have driven in Montana, too, in the winter. You are on your own out there, yet, like you said, your own your own. You can't control if others wreck.

Atlanta only got a few inches of snow. If there would have been some salt trucks out, the snow wouldn't have packed down and turned into ice.

My wife grew up in Chicago area, I wont let her drive when it snows around here. Reason being, she is used to roads that are salted, which melts snow/ice and provides traction, and the roads typically have rougher surface, which provides better traction. Its almost more dangerous for people up north to drive in snow down here when there is snow or ice, as they think they have driven in snow a million times and its no big deal.

Like you said, drive slow, dont accelerate or stop quickly, keep a good distance, and you should be fine, but you also have to factor in all the idiots on the road. Driving up north in the snow is a piece of cake, I drove across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois over winter, and hit some good storms. The thing that was the worst were the wind gusts and blowing snow

We have about 18 inches on the ground and it was 13 below zero this morning during my ride to work.

Please keep in mind that whenever ILS talks about inches, the adjustment factor is about 1:6.

Ha ha ha.... because of his penis.

getting out at 12:15 hell yeah

I'm so envious, wish I could trade some of this rain for some of your snow! Have a fun day! :)

NEVER wish that.

Yep. That's what many of us get too when all that snow melts.

:o

That's actually the water table in my images though- so in the cities, the flood water is mixed with sewage. :scared: Although, if we have half an inch of snow, the country comes to a stand still! :D

The craziest ice storm I ever saw was in Michigan about 20 years ago. It was raining at 16 degrees. As soon as the drops landed they froze instantly. It was impossible to keep windshields from freezing solid in a few minutes even with full defrost blowing. I had to stop and scrape about every 5 minutes. Luckily, it only lasted about 30 minutes and turned to snow. That would have been a disaster if it had lasted a few hours.

As someone with a lot of trees, ice storms are what I worry about most. I had about 30 hours of cleanup and two days of no electricity after one we had about 3 years ago.

Here's a picture I took this morning at a dead stop on I-694. Pretty much gridlock the whole way to work.

ugh.

Yeah, days like that - I work from home.

It's actually snowing right now here, but not expecting much in the way of accumulation. ILs says it's almost a foot, but it's really only an inch or two.

For the record, I wasn't targeting anyone in particular with the "smug wankers" designation. Just a general remark.

At least our governor finally realized no one was buying his attempts to blame the National Weather Service and just apologized for the fuckup.

What little ice and snow we got the other day is now but a memory. Was at least 60 degrees today and bright sunshine. Meltdown city...... :)
