martini... shaken, not stirred

None of the above...make a Manhattan instead. :P But seriously, whatever you do, use quality ingredients. If you use gin, select Plymouth or the like. Save the rail gin for...for...well, nothing.

There are a million different variations. I'd start classic and work from there: quality gin, dry vermouth (I'm of the opinion that if you omit the vermouth, you don't have a Martini; it's merely straight gin), and a couple of blue-cheese stuffed olives.

Uhm, Vodka or Gin?

Dry?

Vermouth?

Olives? How many?

Olive juice? A litte or a lot?

I'm experimenting

I LOVE martinis.

Only use gin and dry vermouth (for a traditional martini - never vodka). Also, stirred, not shaken.

I like green olives in my martini. Three.

I'm not picky at all, I swear!

It sounds sooo good right now. I haven't had a martini in a while.

I'm a fan of gin. Gin and Tonic is my second favorite drink. With a big slice of lime.

So, Tom? How'd your experiment go?

Since he has yet to respond, I'd say the experiment must have gone well.

Perhaps too well.

We may need to peel him off the floor.

Eh, I'm going to try Janies ideas.

I used vermouth soaked olives, really expensive ones. MMmmmm they were gooood.

Vodka martini for me.

A Mardi Gras over 20 years ago is the reason I have not had gin since!

I too had a bad experience with gin many years ago and have never had any since.

I do want to try making a vodka martini though. My wife picked me up 4 nice martini glasses last week.

Do I need sweet vermouth? Do you just swirl the vermouth around in the glass without adding any extra? Ice?

I do know that olives are important.

TIA
