goose
Well, the Colts had plenty of chances, but the much maligned Chiefs D came up big virtually every time. The Road to the Super Bowl runs through Arrowhead. And everybody’s favorite team is making travel plans. Are they going to do something different this time? Because they had a 3-5 record on the road vs the Dolphins, Jets, Bills, Titans, Jags, Lions, Bears, and Steelers, combined record of 56-69-1. Are you comfortable betting against them?Theres no such thing as a comfortable bet involving the NFL. If they had played head to head this year maybe we’d have something to work off. They did but we have to adjust for it being played in a different venue. So in the previous meeting the home team won by 3. That same team underperformed on the road by 16 ppg against teams they played home and road. Make of that what you will. I think the Chiefs will win. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Patriots win comfortably. Now that's info I can use at the sportsbook.

Incidentally, the OTHER team no team really wants to see is on top in NO.But for how long? Momentum has clearly shifted. I was surprised NO won, to be honest. I think BOTH games next weekend will be shootouts. My son's high school hockey team has a game at 6 pm next Sunday, so we'll be playing catch up after getting home. I'll have to stay away from here so that your celebrations or disappointment doesn't ruin the surprise for us. :)

Their defense turned it up a notch to save the day. Eagles still had a shot in the end, and if the catch is made - instead of the resulting pick, they win it, I think. http://www.philly.com/resizer/ArEpyxWm1tv5DbezfLY_glq4qII=/1400x932/center/middle/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-pmn.s3.amazonaws.com/public/72UX4QOJ55GZ5F5LVVKU6XFXLU.jpg "I let my teammates down. I let the city of Philadelphia down. That's on me. We'll be back next year for sure," Jeffery said in the locker room. "One play don't define me. I mean, all of the greats, they have missed game-winning shots. ... So it happens. It's part of football. I just hated the way it happened in the playoffs and it was the final moment." goose
Of course, NO shutting down Foles was the real story. The red-hot Foles went into the freezer, taking the Eagles offense with him. After compiling 113 passing yards on the first two drives, Foles netted just 88 yards passing in the final three quarters against a physical, feisty Saints defense that took away the easy completions. The normally calm Foles looked erratic as New Orleans brought waves of pressure. The signal-caller generated just 45 yards passing in the second half and missed a bevy of throws. Foles was particularly off down the field, missing short on several deep shots that could have changed the complexion of the contest.
goose
Great season, and another amazing offensive performance against the league's best coach. Congrat's Chiefs!!!

Nova Carmina
I hope the Chiefs defense gets better than giving up 26 against a back-up quarterback -- they were supposed to be better, anyway. Of course, if you can score 40, it may be moot in most games!

78jazz
The lower your expectations, the less you are disappointed! (Full disclosure: I am what the fans would call a hater. However, I tend to think of myself as a realist about them. I may not be right on concering 10-6, but I bet I am not too far off and that defense may be what does them in this season.) goose
After a slow start in Oakland finds the Chiefs down 0-10, Mahomes is feeling it late in the second quarter. He's got two TDs, and after being pinned at his own 5yd line on a Raiders' punt, he's busted out big passes for gains to get to the Raiders' 15yd line. Let's get seven more! goose
^^^ Done. Only took one minute! 21-10 Chiefs! Edited September 15, 2019 by goose
goose
Oakland: Thank you, sir, can I have another? Mahomes: Happy to oblige. 28-10 Still 40 seconds left in the second quarter. Even money we get to 35. lol
Nova Carmina
That second half was a bit of non-event, wasn't it? Still, when you can put one of your fiercest rivals down 28-10 at their place, that's a good day's work.
78jazz
For now. One half of football combined with last week's defense? That is how you get sent home in the postseason...which should be familiar to Chiefs fans. When they also miss the SB in 2020, it will have been closer to WWI than modern day times when they went to the SB last. Only the Jets have a longer drought in appearances in the Super Bowl era than the Chiefs.
goose
One half? It was one quarter, yoh. h8rs gunna h8, lol Mahomes sure is fun to watch, though.
Nova Carmina
Hey, you're a poet! I'm going to chose to believe they played to the level of the competition; once it was clear they'd put the Raiders down, it had to be hard to maintain that kind of intensity -- or cruelty, maybe? If Andy Reid were Steve Spurrier in his Florida days, maybe KC would have gone on to win 63-10 -- or if the Chiefs were the USWNT soccer team, pummeling them 13-0. So, I'm keeping my Chiefs-rosy glasses on for another week -- if they'd needed four quarters, they'd have posted four quarters! Now off to the Cowboys thread!
goose
Another slow start for the Chiefs finds them down 0-6 to the Ravens at the end of the first. True to form, Mahomes and Co. put up 23 straight in the second quarter. 23-6 going into halftime. :)
goose
...that defense may be what does them in this season. The one that held the Raiders to 10pts total and scoreless in the final three quarters, or the one that has held the Ravens to 6pts total and zero points in the second quarter so far today? Nova Carmina
No, I think he means the defense that allowed 22 points (and if not for some dodgy play-calling on the two-point conversions, it might have been more) in the second half. They had their foot on the Ravens' neck, but could not crush them. That was too close! Still, it's a win in the books, and a tiebreaker in the back pocket. Nova Carmina
Well, originally they were invited to the party to watch the door and keep undesirables out, but everyone quickly learned they couldn't keep anyone out, so they just joined in for the fun.
