tas7 Posted January 22, 2013 Share Posted January 22, 2013 An old guitar teacher told me anyone can shred but it can sound like meaningless doodling.The sign of a good guitar solo is if you can sing the solo.I've taken that approach to my solo playing,in one of my songs,Castaway I tried to emulate the build up in La Villa Strangiato but alas the rest of the band being Australians hadn't heard of Rush, and it didn't quite turn out as planned.The guitar playing by Alex on Hemispheres is very intense and alot harder than people think.I would say most Rush fans can play the 2112 stuff but playing some of the sections of Hemispheres, and keeping it in time is hard.
