hunter
I wholeheartedly agree that it is an intentional artistic touch to imply the ticking of a clock as well as a count in. Thought so the first time I heard it. It is just the type of touch that Rush is known for. And as for it being too fast for a clock just check out a stop watch or the opening of 60 minutes. LyndseyG
I love the clicking too! It reminds me of the "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2" on Animate.
RUSHHEAD666
QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 19 2012, 08:04 AM) QUOTE (Earthshine @ Jun 19 2012, 02:43 AM) I love it too! Kind of reminds me when Bonzo did it on Black Dog back in 1971! That is some messed up timing on Black Dog. I haven't heard this though. Did he do it live or something? Do you remember hearing the rumor about the timing of "Black Dog?" John purposely played that groove because it was supposed to mess up the listener's heartbeat. Of course it's bullshit, but when I was a kid blasting Led Zeppelin IV I thought that my heart my skip a beat listening to "Black Dog."
Cygnus The God Of Balance
QUOTE (thirteen @ Jun 19 2012, 04:55 AM) I love it! It's like Neil is telling the Alex and Geddy "get ready boys. Shit's about to get real...".
MUSICinTheABsTrAcT
QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 19 2012, 01:28 AM) The title track on this new record is EPIC!!!! It's taken me many spins but I have finally fallen in love with this song. As a drummer I just love when Neil clicks his sticks on the track!!! This album is like a chameleon of all of their albums combined into one!!!! "Clockwork Angels" contains the elements from every Rush era!! From "Caress Of Steel" to "Vapor Trails" for sure!!! When I listen to Neil's drumming throughout this new record I hear a lot of "One Little Victory." He has the double pedal thumping like the heart of a teenaged boy getting his first kiss under a warm summer moon. Neil is the shite! The greatest drummer of all time! Well since Buddy Rich!! One of my favorite things about the song is the stick clicks!

NYM86
It's a pretty cool touch. In years past, Neil would have probably just thrown in another fill in that spot.
Time Traveler
Ok, I've had the album for a few days now. I think the title track has become my favorite! When I saw someone posted about that clicking, I thought I'd agree as well, I really think that clicking was well-timed and creates a nice contrast with the big sound that follows. Love that clicking intro...and I thought it was just me!
